W35 - Fluff (Acid Session)

By ENC_ on September 1, 2024 10:43 am

Went to the county office to register for marriage. Simpler and faster then expected. Met with friends. Bo Ko puzzles spice world. Felt underwhelmed. Short bike ride to the park with partner. Ran into T&D riding their new bikes in the park. Engrossed in Ubik book. Guilt around old choices affecting career options. Met with band memebers for DO to sort out hardware. Played new Arp 2600. Confused interface. Uploaded old remix work to youtube after reflecting back. Finally watched new Alien movie. Really enjoyed it. Some nit pick acting and dialog complaints. SF Zine Fest. Compliments on my shirt. Picked up some $1 zines and a print. Walked through old workplace area. Completely dead. Reflected. Ordered osha sign. Helped AL's parents move things. Made 180+ high quality one shot samples of my 80's drum machines. Good sample refresh. Finished chopping multisample modular E-drum kit. Most likely not going to be used. Talked about work. Discouraged from dish washing.

Consumed: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Alien Romulus (2024), Spice World (1997), Ubik by Philip K. Dick, George & Jonathan - George & Jonathan III, Jensen Intercepter - Mother, Tin Man - Acid Acid Acid, Paranoid London - PL, Tyler the Creator - Flower Boy,

ALM Busy Circuits Almicon (not actually used)
ALM Busy Circuits Quaidra Verb (not actually used)

Song started off as a test of ALM reverbs. Ended up liking synth patches and patterns. Started parts in Ableton. Exported loops for M8. Loops used and layered with M8 internal synths. Sequenced out parts for Volca FM originally but sounded better stacked with S-1. wrote quick acid line on 303 and started layering. Became another acid session. Live recored a session in stereo. Audio Routing S-1 + Volca FM + 303 > mixer > M8 > DR-40. Midi Routing M8 > S-1 > Volca FM > 303. Raw session recording ran through normal quick mastering. Levels are a bit everywhere and mix is rough. For the amount of prep time, acceptable. Could not figure out where else to go so left it and did a live take. Would like to revisit this one in the future.

this feels playful and sneaky at the same time. spies on acid!

Became another acid session

First off, there's nothing wrong with that! But I'd call this piece more than an "acid session" as there's a lot happening in the other layers. Sure, the track really lifts off when the acid line kicks in, but the other parts fit really well. It's sort of an AFX Analord vibe.

Love the layering, drums are way cool and the bass is just wub-wubbing down there having a calm party (I don't know why this is the image conjured).

I stumbled into the main line and it took off from there. Has a bit of a sleazy streak to it. Made me think of walking  around after a night out at the bar and looking for trouble.

Thank you! I appreciate your evaluation and comparison. That's high praise. I actually love acid. I am just being overly picky because I felt it was compositionally too close to the week before's 303 usage. I think I could have pushed things a bit more.

Haha I like the "calm party" description. I am trying to imagine what that would look like. Funny enough the drums were from a stock Ableton sample loop that I just cut up and rearranged. I usually am a bit cautions in using samples I didn't create.
