W10 - Rolling Dreams

By ENC_ on March 10, 2024 6:52 pm

Initially started while visiting home town and thinking about deceased family member. Interactions with them still swim around in my head. I dream about them often. like they never left. Some family dynamics survive postmortem I guess. Through discussion with partner discovered the "Flow chart" dynamic I use to problem solving and planning vs. their "spider web" tactics. Mostly pleasant visit with VTC but tiring. fixed car, taxes, new phone. Listed to dorian concept Jitters, RDJ bootlegs, Clark Body Riddles, and Trackermatte. Continued reading Raving. Miss old enviorment and appreciated 90s confirmation of roughness from local native (sales rep). Watched choir in retirement home. accompanied for reading to 5th and 1st graders. Still remembered by staff. VTC keeping busy.

Largely positive week with little sleep. BG3 argument led to planning dynamics discussion and resolution. Anxious future.

Note: RX-11 Sample session needed. Old ones missing. Nanoloop file needs to be extracted from old phone before trade in. First Ableton 12 completed track. Retiring 11. Also had sound design sample session for LGPT on miyoo. half song started while testing. Revisit.

Gear Used:
Iphone XR (probably last time)
Dirtywave M8
Roland S-1
Old phone from 2011-ish

Gear Sampled:
Roland TR-505
Korg Volca Beats
Sega Genesis Drums (pre programed in Defeltracker and exported to run on hardware)
Cyclone TT-303

Software Used:
Ableton
Nanoloop Mobile
Inphonik RX950
Fors Romb
Tal Chorous_XL
Izotope 10

Song writing, recording, and mixing/mastering were rushed. Feels a bit demo-ish in quality. could return to fix. Tried written in a different scale from usual with no additional music theory exploration. Combination of old transition techniques and newer studies. No generative elements. Groove test mixed results. some of it removed in post production.

Some parts written and synthesized in nanoloop then sampled into M8. M8 sequences S-1 and the song. Intended to include additional acid line but ran out of time. Sampled from old phone recordings of DMC 2011. Time stretched in Ableton and edited.

File Name: Ableton "W10 - RollingDreams", M8 "ROLLINGDREAM", Nanoloop "Rollingdream"

*screwed up timing of the S-1. had to slide over. Also exported as mono. re-uploaded twice to fix errors the following morning.

Ahhh, track and sonics right up my alley! Super cool turnarounds, too.

I have similar feelings about deceased family too, weird lingering thoughts, feelings, and dreams about equations that will never be balanced.

track is awesome, really finds its footing around the 1:30 mark. love the wide stereo field chorusy stuff going on. that understated acid really ties it all together. definitely hearing a bit of that Trackermatte influence, in a good way. so many tasty details.

wow, your process sounds intense. my brain is barely big enough for 2 machines, maybe 3, on a track.

Ooh, this is totally some "Brain Snacks". really been reminiscing on all the weird electronic music I discovered back in high school, this would fit right in.

Fun track, enjoyed this. nice mix of some great sounds.

Thanks! I've been enjoying your tracks as well. We are probably on a similar wavelength.

Good to know I am not the only one. It's a pretty surreal experience sometimes even though it's long ago.

I agree, I think the 1:30 mark is where I found a solid footing. I am not skilled in composition or music theory so sometimes it takes a bit to take a more defined shape. I mostly just keep experimenting and moving forward until it sounds ok to me. I am trying to be a bit more consistent about thinking about structure this year.

I try to document things thoroughly here to help me keep track of things if I want to go back to WB tracks. I mostly just use M8 with a sample pool I built when I have had time for sound design sessions with other hardware sometimes months or weeks prior.

Weird electronic music has been the vibe since covid. In a lot of ways I've been going back to recreate the sounds that excited me in the days of late night myspace scouring of random bands.

Thanks for check it out. Glad you enjoyed it smile

Dead people can linger like that, let's just hope it's good interactions
Have you tried a different mode, rather than a scale?
