W07 - 02_10_2026 New Project

Quiet week. Wasted too much time watching long Diablo 2 videos and scrolling Reddit. Talked about superbowl half time show. Listened to a lot of news. Feeling a bit doomer. VTC and G went to hospital. G struggling with unknown health issue. Since has returned home. Talked to VTC on the phone. Late call with retirement advisor. Out of depths. Shared health news and informed of travel to a politically tense country. Uninterested in learning. Lost a lot of respect and infinitely disappointed. Can't see past home town relationships. Nothing I can do. Too self preoccupied to reflect or know me. TM's Bday, nice dinner w/ friends. KB's business set up soon. Took turns playing with L&R's kid so they could eat. Nice seeing, T&D and A there too. Regular walks. Picked up new book. Valentines day plans set w/ wife. Looking forward to it. Need to set up health check up and finish filings. Avoidant. AL deep into Animal crossing again. Talked about New contract potential. currently fell through. Bad health week for eating. Getting used to long hair again.

Media Consumed: Eddington (2025), Cheers, Star Trek Voyager, The Age of Magical Over thinking by Amanda Montell, Ochre - Lemodie, Nullsleep - Boundary, Apparations - Forrest Drive West, 1, 2, 3,

Gear used:
84hp Eurorack (Moog Mother 32, Erica Synths DIY Polivoks VCF and Black VCA)
Polyend Tracker
Tascam DR-40

Software used:
Nanoloop (sampled)
Ableton
Ozone 10

Same sampling processes as last week. Used PE Tracker this time to compose over a few days of light tinkering in down time (15 minute chunks here and there). Recorded stereo to Tascam (probably can export). Mastered with ozone 10 in Ableton. Probably could have fleshed this track out more but remembered my desired to take it easy this year and go with the flow. Track started with slicing old Nanoloop drum loop made previously. Likely made from from drum machine samples and NL's synths engines. Combo of old last week and this week's eurorack samples used w/ additional sample library on tracker. A few old Alpha Juno and syntakt samples. Lots of metalic linear FM patches from Mother 32. Sequence sampled and sliced. Main synths Made from basic waves recorded from M32, triangle and square (lfo tuned up). Waves looped and sculpted w/ tracker. A bit of an extension of the "test song ethos".

I like how thin the drums are with how many different things are going on and how audible every one is.

You and me both xD

> Bad health week for eating

I had some awful eating weeks the last few weeks. The last week was actually really good for me, finally got things where I wanted them and back on track. Lost 5 pounds (which is bloat weight, a good sign though, sad that I've done this enough times to know this). One thing that helped me was buying salad packs (the kale mix packs with some externally added chicken are bomber healthful and bomber easy, takes 1m to prepare it) and scheduling my lunches of salads, rather than "skipping because I'm not hungry" then pounding a high calorie snack before dinner and also ruining my dinner in the process.

Wishing you luck! A few good nutrition improvements flows into everything else.

+1 for Forest Drive West.

This is crispy and popping. Doomer electro plays up pretty well I think.

That must be how Zak McKracken's dream scene sounded on the FM Towns, when all we had was a PC-Speaker or SID.

really nice flow, my Friend

Slick groovin drums and love those haunted synth tones.  Also Diablo II on gamepass for me, hooray nostalgia! \m/

Good ear, I tried to plan for a lot of frequency seperation in this track. I felt the the bass kick could shine a bit better that way.

I felt the melody was a bit "haunted house-ish" when I made it tongue "Doomer electro", is not a bad description for it.

Forest Drive West was a new discovery for me. Great stuff trying another release from them this week.

I had to look up the game, I wasn't allowed to play video games when I was younger and only had boring  educational computer games as my mom was an educator. The c64 version would have been an upgrade from where I was when I was younger tongue

Haha, thank you. I am aspiring to that dog's majestic hair. Unfortunately I'll probably chicken out at shoulder length smile I just barely made it to being able to use hair ties. We'll see how long I go before I change my mind.

Thank you smile Funny enough, I've been leaning into really basic oscillator tones lately for my main melodies.  Not sure why. In this case I remember it being a Triangle wave with some vibrato and amplitude shaping.

this gif made me giggle in the context of your track - i searched 'avoidant' gifs...

It all fits so well together! Super funky and crisp 606-like drums right from the start. The glassy surrounding ambience is sick and weird in the best ways. And again, I love that restrained bass just bouncing around in the rear/center the mix.

Very fun! Love this
