fierce joy

By emily on January 11, 2026 4:54 am

"Make sure you take care of yourself physically. Make sure you're reaching out to people. Do this to the extent that you possibly can, with... maybe not just say joy - do what you do with joy, but let's fight back with fierce joy. Not least because it will piss em off so much! - HCR

Omg CLANG and SPOOKY

And the groove is so grooving.

The weird play between playground rhyme and protest chant here works so well. Really awesome heart

Ooh those deep bassy kicks right in the gut. Love the bass line so groovy!  chanting along with you! \m/ heart

Dancey, angry and spooky. All together in a fantastic package.

I was not expecting that clang, it was a stark contrast to Neon Liminals soft pads. Instantly got my attention. Love the attitude on this.

Ross Gay approved message...

i love you

Fierce. And essential. Hang in there, and thanks for keeping up the wonderful work.

Hell yeah emily! That last "breathe in with love and out with fear" felt like a complete transmutation of energy. LOVE.

I like where you're coming from with this fierce joy concept and this song delivers on that premise 100%.  Love the defiant energy.  Much needed during these dark times.

i want to form a hardcore band just to cover this. also early-bjork type beats on this one!

I mean dark, heavy... but also...

Wooow. This is perfection. The statement, the arrangement, everything about it. So creative and emotional

Oh shit, the tower clangs with joy!!! I can see folks from the tower screaming out "you can't have my joy" and then tagging it "but you can have this instead!" and shooting cannon balls or something else equally devastating, hahahaha...
Yes, resistance like this is exactly what is needed!

slaps

When I talked about your tunes on my Chasing the Beats podcast this is exactly the kind of thing where multiple feelings allowed to coexist. Goes really hard and “you can’t have my joy” is an awesome refrain.

Exactly. Can’t touch this.

"you can't have my joy" goes incredibly hard and i'm def gonna keep that line in the back of my head. i know i'll need to remember it from time to time.

Even though Week Two submissions just went live yesterday, I have a feeling this one'll be living in my head for a long time. It's such a strong rallying cry, and it's kind of the perfect encapsulation of what it means to make music in troubled times. It definitely encourages me to keep trying. I didn't have the right words to express that yesterday, but I'm really glad you wrote this one.

Well, I may not be able to have your joy, but you had MY joy for 2 minutes.

love this, made me feel so good, just hits right!

*raises fist*

RESIST with joy! I support this message. I also like that the track isn't sad/slow/contemplative but rather invigorating, motivating, instigating. Calling to action.

This is the anthem we need - not just a declaration of defiance, but as a reminder to ourselves.
Bonus: Danceable!

POV: your staring straight at fear itself

WELL said! fun and good message!

Thump thump clang! Let's go! Good message indeed, rallying and dancing. Joy is good when it's fierce! That's a great title, thanks!

Please put me inside the singing bowl

The way those last lines are delivered "breathe, in with love, out with fear", so powerful and great release/sigh at the end of this one. Sault vibes on this one, which is always a good thing.

Damned right

This is a case where I actually believe the Finnish saying "the one who has joy should hide it" may apply. If you hide it, they can't have it. But, let's share it among us in secret..

“Is sorrow the true wild?
And if it is—and if we join them—your wild to mine—what’s that?
For joining, too, is a kind of annihilation. What if we joined our sorrows, I’m saying. I’m saying: What if that is joy?” ― Ross Gay, The Book of Delights: Essays

this is really touching to hear - especially since i’m often yammering on about holding complexity…
holding multiple emily’s inside has to hold multiple feelings
the emily’s are always fighting: emily1  “no this is black and white” /  emily2 “no this is complex” / emily3 is just like:

“let’s shake it kids!”

i don’t have a singing bowl but i can shrink you & put you on the serving tray while i bang it with a spurtle & you can swim around in that reverb…

thank you minnamari
i’m a pretty big grouch for the most part - but with joy in my heart
this track was written and recorded alone in a closet so it was kinda done in secret…
i wish we could sit down to tea or coffee and chat about all the things… for now i'll just ask what is this phrase in Finnish?

May all of you find ways to keep your joy & stay protected heart
Thank you for listening!

Would love to sit down and chat. For now we'll just to do the chatting here heart

The phrase is:
"Kel onni on se onnen kätkeköön"

Love the vocals in the mix, great energy!
Very real

Wow - this is really solid.  Great reverbs / vocal processing.  That bell is epic.  Massive vibe.

heart & hugs

Like Chicks On Speed, though with an actual (and very important) message smile

Thanks a lot for being there
