draw close

no rest for the weary/your shouting is obscene
holding space for the things we’ve seen
shove down the feelings/find no ease
holding space - try not to freeze

fight or flight
no end in sight
it’s never quiet
not even at night

Can't get secure/ what do you mean?
The candle burns in between
Draw close in love/ close every crease
The candle burns without release

Tone Matrix: piano wizardry
JWH: bass, lyrics, finalizing
emily: ambient samples, musical typing synths, lyrics & vocals, mixing

love the ambient sounds in this one

the way josh just drops one note every now and then on the bass, and tonematrix keeps the piano slowly trudging, both moving like inevitable gravity, making even the shivers down my spine scatter at your every arrival, shows such a great talent at songwriting, playing, and best of all: collaboration... great work all of you! i'm in awe at such a mystical haunting heart

Oh hai!  Your mix really helped the vocals shine through the ambience and synth along with the awesome bass presence of JWH.  I'm very honored to be a part of this collab.  This was super fun and felt like the soundtrack to our week.  Noisy neighbors beware! smile

You did wonderful on the backing and the mix is amazing. Thank you.

Excellent work on this. It turned out beautifully! big_smile

Just listened to Tone Matrix's version and it was nice to jump over here and continue in the sound world.  I'll reiterate what I said on his that your styles mesh together really well and it's super cool to see collabs like this coming out of WB.

Like I said on Tone Matrix's page, you guys should think about doing an EP or something together some day. You all sound really great together.

Wonderful. Lovely collab.

A dreamy floating contemplation of ...
Yay for a collab with the Wizard Tone Matrix! I'll go listen to that now. Collabs are the swellest.
I just clicked through the link above to Joah's blog and watched the video "try to sleep..." Loved that!

Very nice collab! Your styles really work very well together!

this song is a timeless beauty and always will be.

Lovely to hear your individual takes on this track and the virtual collaboration. Forging new territories on WB! Beautiful big sound!

amazing collab - great work to you both (plus bonus Josh)

Whoa, this is crazy insanely good.... went to Tone Matrix's profile and wrote: "Fantastic work, the restraint in the piano playing / all that space for ambience & bass is absolutely perfect. One of my all-time favorite things from WB of all time."

Love your voice so much, and particularly love what you do on this. Congratulations, sincerely! heart

Thank you all - I learned so much working on this! Josh & Tone Matrix were so patient - huge learning curve... many new things tried and discovered - things i've been wondering about for a while how to do/if i can do... working across DAWs and email platforms and recording methods and styles!

felt like i was facing my own personal lions and tigers and bears oh my!

Actual Footage of Tone Matrix, Emily, and Josh Headed To A Performance, After Realizing They Were Initially Headed In The Wrong Direction

double comment with tone matrix's post of this

really nice ambience here, steady would-be-serene if not for the underlying tension.

hits me like a combo of the lowkey movements in deadmau5's while 1<2, with the transition-to-the-"beast"-side vibes of clark's feast/beast

this reminds me of the song "bright waves" by Claire Thomas & Susan Vezey. check it out...

what kind of reverb are you using emily? it always sounds somewhat "springy"

there is a reverb setting in the guitar effects in garageband called "reverb for days" that i use a lot on my vocals even if i layer with other effects - & there is also an effect called "reversed reflections" on some of the vocal tracks... there is an option in the controls on some tracks called just "reverb" and "ambiance" that i often turn on when importing tracks to kinda make things sound like they are sitting in the same space...

i do sometimes use specific spring reverb settings but i'm not seeing one on this track but there might be some of that in the "ambiance" setting etc.

I think musical typing is a new 'genre'.

I need to say that I truly love your vocals and lyric-writing. Very inspiring.
