You've Been Here Before | Techno in 11/16 | Live jam dream carpet melancholic melodic

Week 10 already! Doing a techno dream carpet jam with loads of arpeggio's. And long, lingering melodies. The main rhythm is in 11/16th, if that's even a thing. But it is what gives the jam its restless feel. Like it never quite stops moving. This type of jam is really my bread and butter. The thing I tend to do with my hardware synths. Except... I didn't use my hardware synths for this. I did this inside of Ableton Live. I made a handful of loops, like I would do on my hardware sequencers in Eurorack-land. And let it rip. Tweaking the parameters of the various synths live. Bringing things in, opening and closing the filter. Just like I would do with my hardware synths. Except I did it all with a mouse, one parameter at the time. I didn't even use any fancy midi controller to do it. Just the most basic Logitec mouse can buy. The result is very similar as what I get from my hardware setup. So yeah, jamming...with a mouse. Not quite as fun as twisting knobs and sliding sliders. But it works!

Fun thing, I had put up a mic in my room that also captured the performance. And blended it in there softly. To get a bit more of the real world in there.

Any and all feedback welcome!

Awesome, fantastic jam. Love how odd times like this have a drive, but never feel entirely centered. Restless is a good description!

so cool, great momentum. and i love that you mixed in some room mic!

The suspense in this track is amazing and at the same time a bit triggering. I kept waiting and waiting for a drop, but then I realized that’s not where we’re going, and just enjoyed the ride. To me the rhythm/time signature keeps me guessing what's coming next and keeps it interesting. Well done.

damn this is nice. just going through your old submissions now cause I was impressed with what I heard. I love your mixes and sound design. long track but never boring. curious about your setup as it sounds like youre often leaning heavily into hardware.

Thank you once again Monstret, very much appreciated! I have a decent hardware collection, yes. But this jam was done all in Ableton Live* with mouse. Asterisk because I am running Ableton's outputs through some hardware gear.

Does that make a difference? Definitely. But it's really the icing on the cake. A different flavor than entirely in the box, not a night and day difference. So you can totally do without.

I do find that the noise that it picks up by running things through budget gear adds a lot. But honestly, I think you could also layer in a few quiet noise layers in your DAW to achieve a similar result.

Gear used:
Aleisis 3630 compressor
Aleisis Midiverb II
Elektron Analog Heat MK1
Ibanez RM-80 mixer
Shure SM7b microphone as a room mic
Strymon Nighsky pedal
