Spring Migration Whirlwind

Spring is here even if it is still cold out and rainy behind the Cheddar Curtain. There will be a spring snow but only as a ceremonial farewell. When the birds are on the wing I know it! Wings flapping, riding the Whirlwind, their thoughts are bent to their return to Sandhill Slough. I will soon have swallow's nests in my garage (the unintentional aviary) full of eggs.
My instrumentation was piano, violin, and viola. I had the strings use a technique called sul ponticello, (where the bow is nearly on top of the bridge) at the end that gives an ethereal sense. The parts are imitative and playful, the melody tender and full of excitement and expectation.
