Blacktop River

By E-dub on May 24, 2020 5:35 pm

I started with an African beat then put together some chord progression in C Harmonic Minor. Then wrote some lyrics. It didn't come out quite how I envisioned, but I don't hate it.

Blacktop River

V1
There’s a drumbeat in the distance
with a message loud and clear
Smoke on the horizon--
words you always want to hear
The birds are chirping in the trees,
their song a secret code--
It’s time to pack your bags, my dear
and hit the open road.

CH
The blacktop river, she’s a-callin’ us away.
I just can’t see any reason we should stay.
The world out there has magic to make you shiver
So it’s time to say goodbye and find our way--
on that blacktop river.

V2
There’s an aching in your heart,
a desire to be free
A deep and mighty chasm
in our darkest memory
But light is giggling through the sky--
a sweet periphery
It’s time to grab your bug-out, babe
and see the world with me.

CH
The blacktop river, she’s a-callin’ us away.
And there isn’t anything here that could make us stay.
All the wonders of the world will make us shiver.
Now it’s time to find our way and say goodbye--
on the blacktop river.

BR
There’s something that you need to know
We do it now, or we’ll never go
Trapped in routine
We’ll never get away.

Wow very cool. Reminds me of Cole Joy's 'Bad Man'... NICE!

The rhythm is awesome and the melody has a bit of an exotic feel to it.  Combined with the lyrics it does give the feel of setting off on an adventure.

This sounds very professionally crafted, and it's got that Supertramp vibe.

Damn, this really cool.  I caught a Peter Gabriel vibe right off the bat but also a bit of Midnight Oil. You're crushing it on the vocals! Kudos for breaking from typical rock patterns and going in a different direction.  Okay one last comparison... Sparks, but lower vocal register.
