W05 We're Folded

By Drum Bender on February 4, 2024 11:59 pm

W05 was one of those weeks. Had a tough time finding the motivation to do anything really. But, I pulled it together last minute and tried to make something new.

We're having a crazy cool wind storm where I live right now, and it even knocked the power out. Thankfully it came back on thogh, and I was able to upload with 19 seconds left on the clock. Phew!

In the mad dash to make the deadline, I uploaded the wrong version though... which is missing a couple layers and it has couple vocal goofs. LOL.

Either way, I'm glad I didn't give up and even if this one doesn't make the final trip hop album, it was hecka fun to make.

Here's a link to the version with all the intended layers if you're curious:

Wow.

So crunchy, grating in just the right way. Reminds of Gravity Kills or something similar.

It’s album worthy right now. It’s perfect.

Glad the wind didn't take you out! It's been knocking branches onto my power lines. I've been listening to these while watching the branches catch on fire with a hose in one hand ready to battle. So this really feels like windstorm homegrown fire fighting music to me at the moment.

Dude I definitely feel like week 5 is the week the reality of keeping up this motivation starts to set in, haha. I was dragging a bit too. But I definitely think what you got here is pretty cool and gnarly. Super aggro bass and the vocals definitely deliver. Good job on making it in smile

Thanks for listening. I haven't listened to Gravity Kills in forever. Thanks for the reminder. I wonder how many albums they've released since I last checked. Def gonna check.

Grayson is not happy. But I let him know you're ready to fight a fire and he said be careful. Wait, did a power line go BOOM near you?

I think I love making to music in crazy weather almost as much as I love listening to music in crazy weather.

Yeah. I just gotta remember that some weeks are gonna be super hard... but its worth it. And making something is always better that not making anything.

Word.

Love the beat, love the vocals, love the distorted sound. It all fits beautifully. I think you're gonna look back on this one and decide to keep it.

"Times run out"
Yass Weekly Beats realness!!!!!
There was one vocal hesitation thing towards the end that I thought might have been your supposed vocal goof, but I thought it sounded cool and glitchy.
I have to agree with jbarket, perfect 10/10

Vocals sound really good, sitting in a great place for this track.

Gnarly story and beats, stay safe out there!

Thanks. I was kinda thinking they were a bit hot. At least in the final version on BC... Appreciate the feedback.

Nice! Love the bass, chirpy clicks, and hard panned vocal doubles. Glad you got it in on time. I checked out the bandcamp version and definitely hits a bit harder, but I like this stripped down version too.

19 seconds to spare is intense―glad you made it!

Thanks v0. Did the vocals seem out of tune with the bass on the BCamp version to you?

I just listened again and I didn't hear any intonation issue with the vocals. If there's anything there it's slight enough that it just comes off as intensity in the performance. I'm definitely not hearing anything that sounds like a sour note or anything.

Yeah, that crazy distorted synth is wild.

Good job.

I agree with the Gravity Kills vibes but also your vocals gave me some early Richard Patrick feels.  Sweet industrial drums especially that one chirpy bleepy sound.  Well done!

Thanks DJippy. Got any ideas for your W08 yet? The Sacramento WB Meetup tossed around the idea of all doing a 219 BPM track.

Awesome. Appreciate that. Have you listened to Filter's newest album yet?

Oooh I sorta remember hearing that it was gonna come out and then I totally missed listening to it.  How is it? Any tracks to recommend?
