W04 Losers Keepers

By Drum Bender on January 28, 2024 9:14 pm

So, some of you might know now that I'm working on a full length trip hop album as part of this Weekly Beats fun time extravaganzo.

I was listening to W03 to see if anyone else was doing trip hop stuff on here and I found Moloko's beat "Aloha". It was love at first listen. It also fit perfectly with the arc of the album I wanna make, but I never would have thought to make a track like it in a million years.

My W03 track was called Pig Island and their W03 was called Aloha and started with a beach sound and some ukulele... (fate???). I asked if they'd be down with me adding some vocals to their track and they gave a green light. Hope you like the adds Moloko.

I love the idea of collaborating with other beat makers from Weekly Beats and look forward to finding more Trip Hop tracks on there to try to add to. I love making trip hop beats, but think the album will be way better if I collaborate, and add a bunch of featured artists, lots of sonic variety and diverse perspectives. Also, the #feedback fam on the discord has been so helpful so far.

Yeah, this is a pretty sick tune, too bad I missed it last week. I'll be sure to go and leave a nice comment for Moloko. Also, you got like, the perfect kind of voice for trip hop music. It works really well here.

I've done some trip hop music in past years, or at least trip hop adjacent. If you're ever interested in any guitar/bass playing, hit me up smile  Some example of my previous songs are Poisonous Streets (2020) and Once More Around the Sun (2022). I tagged Peering Eye (2020) as a trip hop song but I think it might just be its own weird thing.

wow this was neat to hear both versions of - fun collaboration!

Yeah! it works pretty good with your vocals on top of the track.

😍

Bravo, I love WB remixes and your vocals are so great! As refreshing as an ice cold glass of Aloha Mist

Glad I'm finally getting around to these. You seem to be growing stronger every week too. I love the sound of this one. Your vocals are rad. Throughout all these weeks I really like all the Radiohead like dissonant choices in the melodies however this one gives me more of a Beck feeling which I also really enjoy.

this is amazing, love the song and the sounds here, very good stuff

amazing production on this one

God I love all your songs! The beginning reminds me a bit of some monster rally songs.

Ooh I love this! Incredible use of fun sounds and grooves. Feels like I'm at the beach trying to blend in with the humanoidz.

Dang love the drum tones! Super catchy too, I want this album haha

Dang this is a nice one, already stuck in my head

Oh dang this is cool. Love the beat and vibe. Got that kickback feel. Also, cool title.
Yeah to collabs!

This dissonance/jazz in this is super tasty. Really love the placement of the vocals in the mix relative to the keys. Kinda neatly tucked under. Sounds great.

Great collaboration! This one is definitely a keeper wink

Thanks for listening V. I'd be so down to collaborate. Im planning to make an industrial album after the trip hop one, and was gonna hit you up about that, but i'd be stoked to do a trip hop collab too if you're down. I'll send ya a DM on the discord and we can start scheming.

Any chance for a Emily, Fetal Face, Orange Drink and JWH super group colab this year?

So glad you're on here 9. Can't wait to hear your w5. I got a beck vibe while singing it too. I almost did a beck-esque rap thing at the end but it felt un-needed and kinda far removed from the trip hop shell.

Thanks Bleeoop. Shout out to Moloko for the beat.

Yeah. That really stuck out to me in the melody too. Its really trippy how catchy but dissonant it is. Big fan of that.

is the world ready for this?  hmmmm

The lyrics do make it much more complete, even though they seem a bit low.
