Slow start

By djippy on January 7, 2024 7:03 pm

Not in the "beat" yet, but still jam once in a while with Niko (Bertrude Rock), so I just exported this little clip recorded with my cell phone a couple weeks ago, added some compression, short plate reverb.

This is very low fi, but I feel I would be happy to hit a track like that this week as it is a fun chord progression and "decent" live sound.

Hope I'll compose a complete track by the end of next week for you guys, setup is OK in the garage, I can track drums, guitars so why not!

this sounds great!  can't believe you recorded this on your phone!
have you been surfing in the icy waters yet this year?

happy 2024!

Hell ya live music! This is great lo-fi. The "UGH!" in the middle seals the deal.

yea wow, the phone recording is surprisingly nice even besides the comp & reverb! gotta try remember where you placed it in relation to the kit & amp and just do that all the time hehe. can't wait to hear more of this smile

Thanks! No surf yet, neither whitewater kayaking for me in a while. I did ride my road bike at -15 Celcuis last Thursday tho... Damn it is cold and damn I am not that much in shape. In addition to weekly beats I do plan to train a bit this year so I am more healty.

Rock yeah! I should take the time to mic everything in the rehearsal studio (I do have enough cables and mics to do so, but it is a little painful to do so the mic from cell phone works good to record ideas...) Anyways! happy to see you're back!

When I get lazy I'll do that, hope I'll cook you guys some more polished and well recorded tracks too!

But this displays that Players - Sound of instruments and room - composition is as important as crazy nice microphones...

Thanks a lot all, I feel that I'll find some time and motivation to record some decent tracks this year!

ROCK!

WAUUGH!!!!!
Love it

ugh, this just makes me want to play live even more.  Tasty jams

felt like i was in the room with you (playing imaginary bass over here)
cheers!

Nice jam! You have great tone

Niiice! Love the track, has a really natural build. I’m inspired to try some phone recordings now, I’m a sucker for those lofi textures, so satisfying

Welcome back!  Love the nice raw live feel.  I am also impressed this was recorded on a phone.  Sounds great.

Love the 'sitting in your garage' feels this recording has.  Echoing what jwh said, it felt like I was over for a jam.  Nice work and happy 2024!

This feels very complete already.

Hey djippy! Good to see you again this year! I love the garage rock vibe. Lots of fond memories of recording my old rock band and listening back to recordings. Drums sound excellent and the guitar riffs are super cool. I love the little "AHHHHH!" during the pause, haha.

yes, gimme more of the grungy djippy ditties!

ma dire comme les autres, le bon feeling d'être sur un divan tout croche avec tes amis qui jam dans un local au cité 2000 haha

Lovely! The lofi garage vibes are just on point. smile

ok cool! instruments! nice riff & you sound good together!

I feel the joy of jamming with a good friend. This is something I am missing a lot. It is always nice to follow your very intimate recordings.

Love the garage rock sound. The compression + short reverb gives the drums some extra punch with the crunchy guitar. Can't believe it's recorded on a phone...all around sounds like a fun jam session

How are y'all getting recordings this good on your phones?  Mine sound like scraping rough grit sandpaper over eardrums whenever there's a light breeze.

It is fun to write-compose, but there is something about playing live with people that is tough to beat...

It would be fun to have bass there for sure, and I didn't take the time to overdub it at home. lol

Thanks! Local doesn't sound too bad with the hi-ceiling, this old Yamaha snare packs some punch...

Thanks! FYI I did use the video camera app cause it records in Stereo doing so (contrary of for example a memo recorder), just did import the .mp4 vid file into my daw to add some processing.

It really is the live capture, no "cheating" no timestretch. Happy you are back!

Thanks! Yeah, I have been playing for a long time with Niko and even if we are neither great at what we do, we know each other well smile

Yeah, this is exactly what this is, a snapshot of me and Niko jamming out... Super happy you are back!

Yeah, pretty happy about how "punchy" the result is! Thanks!

I used the video recorder so it records in Stereo... Garage rock doesn't need to have super sophisticated hi-fi capture so it works good.

If you want to listen to the raw capture...

It's amazing what you can do with a phone recording. Nice work and a good reminder to always be recording!

🤘🤘

Nice man, this is a solid jam.  Digging the main riff that ends in a broken chord a lot.

This is vintage rock.  Takes me back to the days when I rolled down the windows in my 68 Mustang and cranked up the volume. Like the bridge that starts around 50 and the little yelp in there. Good times.

i heard a little shout and that made the track for me

nice!
