Recycling is good

By djippy on May 24, 2026 6:21 pm

Yes, it is. Recycled drums this week, and addition of fun synths over it.

Did find a fun free 80's inspired reverb vst as well that I did put into this track quite a bit... smile

So basically, my acoustic rock drums (from another of this year track, you can go back to my tracks to find it... wink ), 70's inspired vst synths (mellotron and other synths emulations).

It is a bit of a mess, but it is what it is!

VoilĂ !

Picture from last week trip to Calgary, this is Banff railroads...

Fitness journey, not bad at all, did about 6,5hrs of cardio, all outside. Weight is steady at about 90 kg. Did eat mostly healthy.

Sweet track. I really like the bass sound, it reminds me of 70s Italian bass pedals that organ players would use.. Elka I think was one of the makers? Always liked that sound and would love owning one, they sound like pure electricity. And I see why you'd reuse those drums, they sound amazing!

Cheers

Reusing ideas is good for the environment.

The synths and raw drums continue to be a winning combination.  I like the variety of synth sounds you've chosen here.  The vocal pads are cool and that searing lead that comes in near the end is sweet.

heck yeah! really nice recycling with these killer drums. i'm curious - do you use any room mic at all, or is it all close mics?
the synths are a nice match for the drums for sure

Drums and those pads go well together, the lead synth is deliberately messy I guess smile

Drums and Mellotron, classic combo!

It feels properly old. I like the spacious nature of it. Well done on the tune and on the cardio and eating healthy!

Thanks! Yeah, it is one of the things that I do when I am short of time, I do open a previous project and just chose some bits, remove other, use the same synths with new midi...

In that case I don't remember that much, but the "room sound" is most likely artificial as I did add 2 busses of reverbs with https://schulz.audio/products/jp-me-1/reverb that is some 80's emulation reverb. Did add the gate and room ones on the full drums I think.

But my drum recording setup indeed includes close mics (kick, snare top, tom, floor tom) and a pair of overhead, as hi as possible so overhead sound is already "roomy". I sometimes add a mono room that is behind the kit pointing to the wall, as I said not sure for this one.

But yeah I really like a one room mic drum sound as well, most of the time it works pretty good with load of compression.

It is not deliberately messy, but pretty much all what I do record kind of get on the same frequency ranges - too busy so it is what it is!!!

Thanks tiger! trying a bit every weeks... Some are better than other!

Thank you so much all for listening, it is great fuel to start the next one.

Rock on!

cheers, thank you for the info!

The drums and bass are so fucking sick. The string synth is the perfect fit between them.

Drums as always sound awesome and huge! \m/ The bass grooves nicely with the drums especially on those growly notes. Sweet mono lead and epic strings too! Nice work!

It is not (just) that much about the guitar... smile I'd love a cool Gibson or Martin, but I do have this little chinese made guitar that does the job. smile Maybe a day, maybe. (But I am grateful to have this one anyways.)
