Pick a line (ViridianLoom drum challenge)

By djippy on March 1, 2026 6:12 pm

I always love ViridianLoom work and often tell him that I feel that "real" drums would suit his work even more. I did try to put my "groove" and garage drums recording to his track Pick a lane . I am not sure if my touch does elevate the track or not, but I tried!!!

And track is killer so it was a treat.

This weekend was the kickoff of "Les jeux du Québec" which is "mini Olympics" for Canada's Quebec province young athletes. My 14 years old son was selected to represent our region and was able to win a Silver medal in Judo!

Fitness journey... I did fail quite a bit this week. I purchase a new 2025 Fiat 500e for our urban commutes and it was a bit stressful, car was not that close to the house, did focus into that instead of staying in shape... So maybe 2hrs total of cardio this week, hope I'll get back at it in a more consistent way as I did since last October but not too concerned. I however probably have lost 0.5 kg being now at about 88.5 kg.

You guys rock!

JP.

love the synths and the odd time signature!

love ur drumming as always! i think there is something magic about a live kit. ViridianLoom's track is so cool, i feel like it gets even more into Opethy prog teritory at the end with the live drumming.

Awesome combo and def agree it has that sweet prog feel with the live drums on ViridianLoom guitars \m/. Hail yais! You both rock!

All praise be to prog!!
Highly enjoyable to drive to.

Oh this is so fucking rad.

Mad rhythm to be drumming to, fair play!

Nice collab.  The drums complement the rest of the track nicely.

Thanks a lot for the kind word!

Not "easy" to feel right. I have to confess I couldn't nail the final transition, had to punch in the little fill that I did keep quite simple as well...

Thanks a lot!

Oh bien! Rajouter une batterie organique rajoute vraiment une dimension. Tasteful drumming! Felicitations a ton fils!

Ohhh proggy drums! Ça complimente vraiment bien la track! good job

Drums add some groundedness and let's the other instruments float out? Is how it feels to me. Interesting combo

Without reading your write up your drums caught my attention, they’re definitely at the front of the band. Playing with that little half measure at the end of the phrase gives it some real gravity. And tidy drum work too

Great playing! A match made in heaven cool smile

This is so fun to hear! I dug the original and your drums are a wonderful addition. big_smile
Congrats to your kid on the Les jeux du Québec win, by the way!

I hope to drum like you some day! Except I don't practice so i'll be 1,000 years old. Such a groove! When the guitar came in it sounded like your hi hat (?) was covering it up a little bit, but then the mix settled in and really complemented the guitar. Cheers to collabs and remixes!

hell yeah! felt very natural and can picture you both jamming this in the garage together \m/

love this man, really great drums.

Augggh. I love the odd time signature! It adds such amazing character. Love this track. heart

Real drums rock. Great collab. Not an easy drum part sounds like!!

Merci! J'aime beaucoup le "randomness" de l'instrument acoustique...

Ouais, celle là était proggy pour vrai. Pas facile pas facile.

Thanks for listening. Yeah I like what ViridianLoom did with both his acoustic and synths instruments there.

Thanks a lot! I did my best, it was not easy as I usually do "basic" 4-4 drumming, but I think I was able to kind of feel the track ok.

Cheers! 1000 years old is a LOT of experience. I feel that if you really want to learn drums, you can get there way faster... smile

It would be fun for sure to "really" sit on a room and move some air together... I'd take you in the band as well!

Thanks! I didn't have time to practice or build a "crazy part" like the original programmed one, but the more "laid back" part I record works ok too.
