Droit devant

By djippy on August 7, 2022 1:55 am

Started this one finding 2 decent little loops of my drumming taken on a jam. Those were recorded with only one room mic.

Then added bass and electric guitars to it.

Wanted to probably track vocals over it, but it didn't work too well, so here it is as an instrumental.

Rock!

Fantastic jam. I love this kind of rock. Pity the vocals didn't work out, I think it could be lots of fun with a vocal element. Maybe you just needed a little more time to workshop?

I absolutely love the beat manipulation you’re doing. I must admit it, it tortures me how good your drum sounds are. The production always has an effortless, raw quality that I haven’t achieved yet.

This is my new favorite of yours. The clever beats are great, and the music goes with it perfectly. Bass sounds gritty, and you let it breath so it really comes through when it is playing. And panned guitars are great. Really well done, mang!

Cliché gif, but dang if it isn't exactly the same bpm!

Delightful.

This really does bring the rock.  Great sound on this.

Much thanks! When I do 1 mic, I just double the track, cut everything but 50 hz that I boost a lot on track 2, compress a lot, and "drum bus" compression as well. For that particular track, I had to tame a little the hi mids - hi as the cymbals were a little harsh. Then drum bus to a relatively short plate reverb, that I did use as well for guitars. And yes the key word is "raw" as I sincerely don't do that much to my drums usually (except compress the shit out of them... lol)

Thanks for the breakdown!

this is so sick, the glitches on the guitar are SO sick at 1:50

this song needs to be LONGERRRRRRR

Actually I just need the riff at 2:00 to be repeated for 4 minutes.

I either want to buy a wood block or a cowbell, I can't make up my mind!

I know, djippy's room sounds so good - and the playing is like on that Portishead break beat level of awesome!

I don't know if it's because I haven't listened to your music in a long time or what, but this is so good and the mix is so clear and crisp.

What microphones did you use for everything?

Also the ending is so good

Rock! J'aime beaucoup le son de la basse sur ce track. La batterie sonne bien aussi, encore une fois l'impression d'etre dans la salle de jam avec un groupe. Ca fait du bien!

This is a banger! Great sound and power on all instruments. Always love some cowbell! Can't wait to hear the vocals if you revisit it.

He Drew, super happy you did like it! About mic, it is a rode ntk maybe 10 feet in front of the kit. Rehearsal room have a hi ceiling, but I did add quite a bit of plate reverb... Guitar go thru my little Randall head and is recorded DI. BASS is DI recorded as well, did go thru an ampeg amp simulator and lots of saturation. And the tricks for glitchy guitars is to play not to great, add some quantize on Ableton, copy paste the track and pitch shift track 2 seven semi tones up... Lol. Have fun!

Rock!
