What Should Have Been

By DESLRV on May 10, 2026 1:49 pm

This is made from what I contributed from the week 16 song, but didn't make it into that. It's a shame it didn't get put anywhere into it. Now I make the song it should have been.

The idea of this song is that the chord progression pivots around the C note:
C->Gsus4->Am7->F for the A section
Ab->Bbsus2->Dm7->Eb6 for the B section
All chords featuring the C somewhere.

Perhaps the execution could use some work, that's fine, I'm still recovering from a sickness. Nevertheless, it's a pretty wistful and empowering progression.

Have a good recovery!
I like especially the break from 2:24. A nice chiptune is always welcome, especially if it has THE BIRDS.

Really liked the chord progression and modulation.
Felt pretty heroic, reminding me of gameboying away at some bosses, defeating them and hearing an epic tune as a reward.

I like the chord progression for sure. wistful and heroic even. as ever, your signature birds take it to new heights.

This is AMAZING. You should’ve seen my face when the chorus hit. Powerful arrangement, really cool chord progression changeups, and empowering vibes all around. Really glad you salvaged the material you used to make this one, it’s easily one of my all-time favorites of yours now. 😊

An epic and powerful chord progression! The synths with the guitar have a warm comforting feeling to them. Excellent outro \m/ I hope you feel mucho better soon!

This is so cool! I like the glitchy stuttery notes. Really goes on a nice journey as well

Thanks, getting better every day.
I love the breaks, and the birds, and chiptune

I agree, and I think that was the intent, or at least a good coincidence.

It's definitely very solid, and happy, like the birds.

Yes!
she was mildly upset it wasn't used the first time, she wanted to set things right by this and she did really well.

Truly this is the world how it should have been.
The outro definitely could become a piece on its own as well.

It's kinda our signature, just because I suppose. They've been with us for a while.

It's been going on for a while, it should be over soon.

Always the birds, and the change is Verse to Chorus (or the other way around, they're not really marked) and happen a few times before as well. It's a good change indeed.

Like prior statement, that's the change from Chorus to Verse (again, or the other way around, they're just labeled A and B), and it is just as good a change. The whole song is just good, honestly. Solid, easy concept, amazing results.

This so whimisical! I found myself humming along big_smile I love that it keeps building.
