The 9th Castle

By DESLRV on February 26, 2026 12:29 pm

There are 8 castles in the sky, but the 9th is the one with all the secrets

The name comes from a TTRPG module we made for a jam some time back called The 8 Castles of Sand and Sky, it didn't do very well, but the idea was neat, maybe some day it'll get developed into something bigger

As for the structure itself, it's a loop that's based on the Astral Observatory (from Majora's Mask, if that doesn't mean anything to you, you should do everyone in the room a favor and look it up)
Not sure if the essence was caught entirely, but it doesn't need to represent an astral observatory, it needs to represent a castle, in the sky or otherwise, which is why the birds are low-passed

Love the bells in there!

Those arps are so good. Triumphant feel to the whole track.

Love the story behind this track, the bells are just so wonderful and really set the tune for the whole song, great job this week, love this

Sounds super nice! I haven’t really played them but i love the idea of having different soundtracks for table top role playing. I think this would make a good one!

The piano chords are lovely and really enjoy those lil melodical fills in between like i'm climbing stairs and progressing levels.  A triumphant and hypnotic effect.

Oooh, 12-bar loop is nice. Really like the modal mixture and the fakeout in the last four bars. Bells are approprately light and airy for a sky castle, and the piano block chords are a nice rhythmic bridge between the fast arps and the main melody. But favorite bit (beside the chord progression) has to be the motor growl

Amazing stuff, I love those arps in the background. You did amazing magic with this submission heart

They're really good arps for sure.

The story isn't even finished, it was very rushed and there was little space, but it's nice to know this is going in the right direction.

Maybe with a little less frantic arp, it would be, but you can try it and see how it feels.

Yes, perhaps there should be a bit of a bassline as well, but this will do.

That fakeout is just a little dino saying hi, most everything else was borrowed from the source. Not all of it though.

Thank you, guess the arps can stick around.

"So I built an *eighth* castle! ...That one burned down, fell over, sank into the swamp, got shot out the top of a volcano, crash-landed on the moon, started an unsuccessful business venture, got chased by a wild goose and then sank into the swamp *again*,

but the *ninth* one stayed up!" big_smile

I dig the shimmery arps in this one. Cool stuff!
