Cat in the Wind

By DESLRV on February 22, 2026 2:16 pm

Featuring our kitten, Paprika. Very easy to record because he meows all the time. Chopped up the recording and placed throughout the song.

This one was requested by the person mentioned last week. They're a system like us, one wanted "calming nature like a wooden windchime blowing in the breeze" and another "cat meow". So that's what we got here. Plus our usual stuff, of course. Putting the cat over the birds is just appropriate.

Unrelated to that, last week Leega found a new DAW to try. Waveform FREE (that's actually what it's called) by Tracktion. It is indeed the free version of Waveform pro where they opted for a more modular approach; use as is with honestly quite an impressive volume of features, or buy things you need, like a MIDI package to have an arpeggiator. Stuff like that.
We won't be needing any of those, so free is fine. The transition from Sonar to Waveform is honestly pretty smooth, the manual isn't trapped in 90's hell, designs are much more consistent throughout, and most of the VST I use are 64-bit anyway (since it doesn't support 32-bit). Might see where this one goes. The per-track LFOs are neat, but still not quite as well done as LMMS'.

The meow is so cute and very chill vibes

Aww, cute! Props to you and your kitty. big_smile

nice work. I was losing myself in this one being quite meditative and then then bird chirps brought me back with a laugh. was thinking when I was reading your description that, even though it would be quite impractical, it'd be funny if you all preferred a different DAW.

If you want, I can give you a version without the animals, that'd be very meditative

It's not impossible for us to prefer different DAWs, but so far every change has been a linear upgrade, for the most part
LMMS has some really useful features no other DAW seems to have, but can't do audio recording
Sonar is competent, but also complex and finicky
Waveform is a good compromise, anything it's missing a VST will add, anything that can't be replaced can be worked around
Until we find another DAW that's even better

I always prefer with bird chirps!

aww yay ginger kitties!  and yay Paprika! this was a lovely escape with the wind and birds.  It kinda reminded me of the atmosphere of the game "little kitty big city".  Meditative exploration smile excellent work!

The wind is cool with the guitar, some nice atmosphere.

Thank you!
Some day we'll get to play that game, it looks like just the right kind of game for this world, but if this is anything like that, I know it'll be good

I love the instrumentation and how suspenseful yet playful everything unfolds.
