MPLS Lullaby

By DenaWoods on January 25, 2026 8:29 pm

Recorded last night, after hearing about the execution of Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE in MPLS. I felt moved to make something quiet and calm. Recorded in a cozy bedroom by candlelight while wishing for deep rest and nourishment for Minneapolis citizens as they continue to fight amidst deep grief.

I've never recorded my music myself until right before WB26. Still learning a lot through the process of each submission. This one is raw and has mistakes but taught me to learn the lesson and let go.

Made with: Acoustic guitar, crystal singing sound bowls, vocals.

A beautiful calming piece.
My heart goes out to everyone over on your side of the world.
Take care of each other and keep fighting.
Thank you for sharing this heart

i had honestly assumed you'd been recording your music for years it's put together with such care heart can't help but be a little reminded of liz harris with your vocals too, it's ethereal.

Thank you for hearing it. heart Glad it brough some comfort.

Beautiful, evocative, poignant, relentless.

Drawing out that singing bowl(?) ring/feedback in the background had an incredibly effective and moving effect in this mix.

Stunning. And trying not to cry.

We need our anger, but we need this too - keeping a handle on peace and love and calm, to remember what we’re fighting for.

❤️

wow this was just such a comfort to listen to. love how your vocals sound and are panned in the mix.  2:12 really got me heart beautiful

Wow, this is great. Love the space you allow for the sounds to develop. The vocal panning was an especially nice choice. I'd love to be in the room if this was performed live, wrapping myself in this sonic blanket. Thank you!

delivered with such grand depth of feel, may we all find a moment to enter this quiet and contemplative space to honor the fallen!

Well executed submission. Solidarity w/ Minneapolis heart

Nope, I am a newborn baby when it comes to recording myself. I've produced my own stuff before but never been the person pushing the buttons. It's teaching me every week.
Thank you for the Liz Harris mention...I've now discovered Grouper and have been in that rabbit hole, so lovely!

Thank you, I'm still working on balancing how much and how little to let them ring out in a recording. They are currently my favorite thing to record, so fun!

We sure do! We need the anger but we need to restore ourselves to be able to keep fighting. Thank you for hearing it.

I am very new to recording, and the panning thing was something I learned to listening to the jwh episode of chasing the beats with SQF. I'm trying to listen to the podcast each week to help myself learn and to stay encouraged, curious and motivated.

you're so right

prayer bowls = longtime favorite, so there was a layer of nostalgia beneath the soothing warmth.

this is beautiful, lovely
there are no mistakes here, other than ICE
