distant pulse

Ugh, zero time this week - I'll admit this is mostly a slight rework of an earlier draft, except I'm not even sure I improved it what I had, especially since I accidentally left in some stuff that wasn't supposed to be there. Oh well.

Anyways, another Yamaha FM-heavy song. Again featuring OPL3 (mostly drums), but this time also MegaFM and DX100 (yeah, that's monobass). Again, mostly my own samples, processed with M8.

Also, the bassline sounds super familiar to me. It's not too original, but maybe it's the exact same as some other song, not sure. Of you recognize it let me know lol.

This is really funny because I listened to last week's song, googled you a bit, found your bandcamp, played a few songs... Played "survival" last then went to message you on discord to complain I can't buy all songs at once. Stopped playback thinking I will buy it later and then came here to play this.... only to hear THE EXACT SAME RIFF playing slower from where I stopped "survival". EERIE.

Then I go and read the text for your track...YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU DID THIS???? HAHAHAHAHA this is just too weird

THAT IS AMAZING!

okay 00:57 of this track and then
6:27 of "survival"

XC3N I can't believe you stumbled onto this, you are a musical detective.

ddmm64, this is a very cool accident OR is this the song that you were reworking?

OK, ddmm64, I ordered a Retrowave OPL3 Express because of your shenanigans last week, and now this. Man, I don't need an OPL3! But here we are big_smile

The track's very pleasant, and that's definitely Solid Bass!

Haha, I thought "no way the internet will find my obscure little bandcamp I just set up just to send a link to my wife when she asks what I'm doing with all this gear" but here we are, LOL. Soo, the story is that there was a jam organized by the polyend discord (which allows any device, not just polyend) where everyone had to pitch in samples. I put together a bunch of FM samples I liked from my stash and ended up making a ton of loops that I kind of stitched together in one megasong, but always like should be split up and developed more. Didn't end up adding much this time either, life has been pretty hectic. But thanks so much for listening!

Thank you! It's actually solid bass's less known cousin, mono bass (sampled it myself from the dx100 and shared those samples in both the M8 and polyend discords). It's pretty similar but a little bit more "FMish" (stronger modulator). It's in the dx100 from mars sound pack as well, if you have it.

And yeah, the retrowave is pretty fun! It's all open source which is cool. There's a cool editor that works well with it (and also has built-in emulators which can make it easier to try out stuff) https://github.com/Wohlstand/OPL3BankEditor.

LOL

Haha, thank you. Wasn't there a joke about Vivaldi or some other Baroque composer stealing from themselves? Just learning from the best big_smile
