Happy week 10! Honestly longer than I thought I’d stick it out and I’m glad I have. This is the track I thought I’d be able to finish last week but frankly didn’t get close. Listening back I feel like I really “threw the kitchen sink” at this one and should have taken a more minimal, cohesive approach to instrumentation, especially later in the track. Always learning.

Lyrics prompted by *literally* sawing/sanding wood to make kitchen shelves. A pretty straightforward metaphor, but thinking about our own edges we may remove, consciously or not, and how important some of them may be.

Acoustic guitar tuning: C# F# B D# G# B - don’t think I’d messed with this before but recommend it.

I really enjoy this track.  The vocal layering is really nice, great harmonies, particularly in the last chorus.  Well worth the extra time spent.   ᕕ(⌐■_■)ᕗ ♪♬

vocals on point, and yeah - always nice the way you weave in harmonies. i love that little run after "someone on the shelf," and how it signals the coming changes in the end section. the ending works for me. like there is a lot going on, but you have it mixed so well so it doesn't feel overwhelming or like it loses the plot (to my ears at least). that said, the song is strong enough that it could also work really well with a more minimal arrangement. those are decisions i often struggle with!
but yeah, big fan of what you are doing.

Super! I'm glad you've stuck around as well and hope you keep it coming. Lyrics solid, guitar solid, composition solid. Sounds great. I think the best music is inspired by everyday life. Weekly Beats is always about learning and improving but this one sounded really nice and cohesive to me.

This song has such a cool vibe. When that vocal melody reaches its apex in the verses, it's an awesome moment. Neat to hear about the inspiration behind the track too. In a funny way, sometimes the best lyrics are the most straightforward. Great work, and definitely a new favorite for me!

Your vocal arrangements/performances are always so great and this is no exception. Great songwriting. Love the lyrics and concept heart

Much appreciated! Worried it was a bit much at the end but liked it, thank you for affirming T.T

Thank you! Really glad the run + ending felt suitable. I think I have to accept always being unsure about what direction to take arrangement and just commit to something >.> It means a lot, I am a fan of yours as well smile

Thanks so much! Honestly "solid" on all 3 of those elements is more than I could ask for, I appreciate it.

Thank you! Yeah that apex is definitely the "moment" I enjoy most and everything else pretty much serves those moments in the verses lol. Glad you enjoyed this one. smile

Thanks so much, and thank you for listening smile

Super kind comments from all of you, really made my week smile. Wound up feeling rushed the day I turned this in and worried that I had botched it with haphazard last minute changes. Feeling the WB love and will keep at it for now.
