Spring - Day 1 (Cozy Counseling)

By Cursory on February 4, 2024 10:52 pm

Happy Week 5! The last couple of weeks I worked on finishing a collection of songs for my partner's birthday. The main goal is to make mellow music she can play in the background during her work as a counselor. This will be the second volume of "Cozy Counseling," released under the artist name "Inner Lettuce," if anyone's curious. There's a certain freedom in making something for the sole purpose of being background music, and it's a good outlet for turning all sorts of guitar noodles and loops into something more finished without a troublesome perfectionist mindset.

This track is one I particularly enjoyed putting together, originally a loop inspired by the first day of "spring-like" weather last year but finished off this week.

Cozy indeed! Definitely nails that comforting, therapeutic vibe you're going for. This is a really cool concept for a track, and I bet it would serve its intended function very well. heart

Really nice sounding. What a thoughtful gift! One constructive comment: I know everyone is different, but to me the clave/wood block sound is a little too close to a ticking clock to allow me to move it into the background. My mind kinda dwells on it. Really like the vibe  of this.

wow, i love this concept, what a nice gift!

I like blighter's idea and would wonder how this would sound with no percussive elements at all.

Loved the track, and really like the concept as well!
Very well done, I'm currently working in a train à 6:45 am and it lands perfectly.

Very cozy. Maybe I can do that too at some point.

I 100% agree, there is something about making music intended to be background music that brings a weird contentment to the process.  It's like you're scoring unknown persons life, which I guess all music is kind of that, but with background/ambient, you're scoring a quite peaceful moment.  Takes away a lot of the pressure of "saying something" and gets to the more core purpose of music... communicating a feeling.  And, in this case for sure, leads to some really wonderful music.

Lovely guitar work and what a cool project heart

Very nice guitars indeed. I quite like the electric pianos too. Nice smooth track.

Thanks! This is probably one of the cozier tracks, when I did this last year I was afraid of minor keys because I didn't want to make anyone feel extra sad haha

Thank you! I really appreciate the comment, I think it was an element I added early and didn't think twice about it since it sounds so similar to a click track - I think playing along to these often made it blend into the background more for me. Realizing the part at 1:08 without the click is pretty nice... you might be on to something haha.

Yeah that's interesting! Hadn't occurred to me but this probably would have worked well without percussion.

Thanks! Smooth is a great compliment here.

Great guitars. Made me want to go get something from Chase Bliss and do one of those Knobs vids

It's a very pleasant sound that makes you feel like you're melting.

What a sweet gift. And I appreciate you embracing the functionality of the piece as background music. Music can serve an important role in that way. This was a very pleasant listen. Thanks!

Very calming and warming!
