XY Axis

By Cosmic Cairns on January 23, 2026 8:40 pm

I couldn't totally decide what direction I wanted to go this week.  I felt a little like being noisy, but I also kind of felt drawn to doing something ambient.  But I also kind of wanted to do some vocals, but I felt like being abstract.  So I kind of ended up doing all of those things.

She only came in
Just two dimensions
And went forever
Without extensions

Her world exists in black and white
She's never heard of yellow
She lays there flat against the sheet
And doesn't feel winds bellow

There is no end here
She is eternal
And though time passes
She remains vernal

I got off track along the way
Trying to trace her contours
Come back again some other day
When rain no longer downpours

She was immune to
Anaphylaxis
And made her home in
This xy axis

The Earth might tear itself apart
But she won't even notice
The end is only just the start
For this undying lotus

another wild Cosmic Cairns adventure! surprise ending is very effective  big_smile

She was immune to
Anaphylaxis
And made her home in
This xy axis

so good!

Great lyrics then the outro? Awesome.

The like ambient break down/outro has kind of a Trevor Jones, James Horner thing about it that was awesome... really interesting atmosphere.  Cool track.

oooh such nice vocal harmonies. flying synth solo extra appreciated. well done!

Sweet song, love the extended outro

She was immune to
Anaphylaxis
And made her home in
This xy axis 🥇

The lyrics are quite fantastic. I like how you have the backing vocals in the track adding some drama to this wonderful unique banger. And then the track transitions into another atmospheric dimension.

That end! Like Pavement did a load of hallucinogens and drifted somewhere else through a song. Great!

really well done, all the comments had me waiting for the end and it did not disappoint.

Sounds great (Fiancé loves it) and the outro is rad, but there should be some kind of award for rhyming "anaphylaxis" with "XY axis"

Love this song. The lyrics are super good. And taking the time for the outro was beautifully done. I was positively touched again by your humor and musical taste. You create good moods. Thanks.

A very cool piece in two acts.

Very creative again!

Cool track.

Noisy and ambient is right! Great combo!

very cool! I really like that change in the middle. Your recipe works great here and the whole is very colourful and has the sense of drama and journey...great!

As always I love the lyrics, but also, in this particular track, it's great to hear that change of direction mid-song(i suppose it's not such a change in direction as it is in the general momentum: it brings the song to a beautiful close in a very effective way). Rendered with excellent compositional skill!

Love it, propulsive rocking and catchy, lyrics sooo good. May be fave of yours this year! The surpise end was awesome.
Now I will be thinking all day about what a home in the xy axis means. I love last verse lyrics, an "undying lotus" wonderful

So she's "made her home in the xy axis" and "exists" in black and white. No depth? But also unchanging and incorruptible. Is she "life," maybe? On the song, your vocal melodies are strong as ever. But my favorite is the back half: the sad but grand synth strings attended on either side by soft bells, and that flanged guitar from the beginning looping and winding outwards

lovely flatland romance!

Lyrics and then an extended instrumental outro felt like the best of both worlds to me.  Thanks!

Thanks!  I was looking up all the movies those guys composed for, and it's an impressive list.  Good company to be sure.

Thanks! I had some fun playing with the synths at the end there.

I don't always know where songs are going to end up, but I knew from the beginning this one would have an outro along these lines.  Thanks for listening!

I think backing vocals can add a lot to a track.  I'm going to try to continue utilizing them more this year. Thanks!

Love that comparison.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  It's fun to throw a little something special into an ending once in a while, I think.

Thanks!  I was pretty happy with that particular turn of phrase.  And tell your fiancé thanks as well!

Thanks as always for listening and for your kind words!  And it's worth taking a little time for some stuff like that outro for sure.

I might have to explore a little more noisy ambient this year.  Thanks for listening!

I do like when music takes me on a journey.  Thanks for listening!

Thank you.  I guess it is a change of direction, but hopefully one that seems to flow out naturally.

Sometimes I like lyrics that don't spell everything out and leave some room for interpretation.  Thanks for listening!

I like that interpretation of the lyrics.  The outro for sure felt like an important component of this one for me.

I remember reading Flatland in school, and it has certainly stuck with me.  I have no doubt it exerted an influence on these lyrics.  Thanks for listening!
