Voyage Into Vastness

By Cosmic Cairns on December 26, 2024 8:54 pm

Well, that's another year in the books.  I managed to do all 52 weeks again, although there were times when life didn't make it easy this year.  Overall, though, WB didn't feel like too much of an obligation this year.  For the most part I looked forward to being able to work on music each week, and I definitely enjoyed listening to the wealth of tracks on here and interacting with the community.

I've been pretty bad about doing music in off years the past several times I've done Weekly Beats.  I don't want to fall off completely from music in 2025.  I don't think my wife would be happy with me if I tried to maintain a weekly pace in 2025, but maybe I can try to do every other week or something just to keep at it.  We'll see how it goes.  WB is definitely good for the motivation, and sometimes I can get lazy when I don't have that.

I generated enough material I'm reasonably happy with in 2024, that I'll probably try to put together a couple albums to release in 2025.  Who knows what curveballs life will throw or if any of us will even still be here, but my plan as of right now is to be back for WB 2026.  Hope to see you all here as well!

As for this final track, I tried to go a little epic for the last hurrah and did a track with several sections.  I may end up tweaking it further, but I settled here for now.

Thanks for listening and for the kind and thoughtful comments you've shared with me this year.  It is much appreciated.  Music-making can be a little bit of a lonely hobby sometimes, and it's always nice to know your work has at least reached a few attentive ears.  I hope I was able to return that favor to a small degree.  Feel free to keep me posted of any music stuff y'all are doing in 2025 and I'll do my best to check it out.  If you've got any email lists you want me to join or bandcamp pages or youtube channels or whatever, let me know and I will follow.  Here's hoping for a great 2025 and beyond!

Countless years have passed by and we're many miles apart
Although we haven't spoken I hope you know I'll always be your friend

Even though our winding paths may never cross again
I'll always look back fondly even as we make our own ways through the void

I hope that things are stable and you don't feel paranoid
And many blessings come your way as you head off wherever you're bound for

Voyage into vastness and pass through a billion doors
And one day you will wake up and find yourself exactly where you are

Congrats Ethan! You made awesome and thoughtful music consistently all year. You always inspire me!

And epic track!

Such a catchy groove in the drums. The synths have such a triumphant sound to them in the beginning and then it parts da clouds with those lovely airy sounds.  Celebratory guitar chords supported by your heartfelt lyrics.  Hell yes! Perfect closer for this year.  Oooh wavy synth dropped into the downtempo beat so nice! I feel ya in those off years for sure.  Congrats on another awesome 52!  Hope to see ya in '26! Have a happy new year!

The drums are so nice!! Nice pad build up at 30 seconds. Really cool stuttering sounds, gives the track a nice rattling, like a shiver with goosebumps. Then it feels warmed back up, enveloping me in softness. But I can still see the landscape. It's snow, and icy, like a tundra. But the skies are so blue. The vocals caught me by surprise! Suddenly it all feels so human and tangible. 3:12 synths are ace, I like that you just gave us a taste, and then moved on without lingering too much on it. The subtle off-timing of the guitar makes it feel like I'm trying to catch something, but it always slips through my fingers. Great last track of the year! smile

A big bold, triumphant start, then love the transition into next section, gives us a moment to reflect. Vocal section with great lyrics inspiring wonder and next instrumental continue the story. Epic track indeed! Great way to close out!

I share your sentiments shared above completely. Thank you for those thoughts. And thank you for all the magical music and supportive comments each week. Your music is always fun to listen to and I really like your lyrics and story telling, it inspires me to want to tell stories too. I appreciate you!

All the best in 2025, maybe will cross paths on the interwebs. Hope you get the albums released, I'm trying to do the same, but we'll see.

Happy new year!

This definitely has a "ending of a large project" feel to it, it's impressive you were able to bring that in here!!!

Thanks for always sharing your music with us and for being such a kind soul. The world in in short stock of your kind heart

In the WB off years, you can still continue on either a weekly or monthly pace on streak club!
Weekly: https://streak.club/s/1815/weekly-music-2025
Monthly: https://streak.club/s/1813/monthly-beats-2025

I'll probably stick to monthly - seriously will not be able to keep up with weekly for a whole other year, hahahahaha...

Wishing you an awesome 2025!!!

you did it, and with such grace! it's been a joy following your music this year. your melodies are always so tasty and full of hope, even when swimming through dark waters.

thank you for sharing all of that with us, and for always showing up with encouraging words and open-hearted listening.

sending love to you and yours as we head into the unknown of 2025. may music and kindness continue to sustain us. heart

Huge sound on this final track. The drum beat is really good, very organic and adding to the vibe. This indeed feels like a voyage. I like how we recapture your comsic cairns vibe from 2:20 onward with the acoustic guitars.
It was a blast making this journey through 2024 with you in the community. Best of luck keeping some pace in 2025 and see you again in 2026!

Yep, mission complete. I don’t know what to do now, but i am getting the studio organized differently so hoping to get that complete. Really enjoyed your corner of the sonic highway this year and this track was a nice culmination of the journey. Now we get to take some time and while I do miss the routine and weekend rush, it’s also nice to just shuffle along a bit. Hope to see you back in 2026.

Dear Cosmic Cairns, this is a beautiful appropriate song for the week 52. The transparent and 3 dimensional synths together with that cool beat are an excellent choice to start the track. All the guitar playing in here is a joy to listen to. There are a lot of emotions and feeling for dissonance brought in. Your voice and lyrics are immediately recognizable. Fine fine music.
It definitely was a hard road to go this year and I think we supported each other in the motivation to continue unspoken.
Let me thank you for being in this team and your family to let you do, what you had to do.
Please enjoy the new year, take some rest, collect some ideas, find inspiration for 2026.
And if you release music or write a book or become president of the galaxy, let me know
Bye, Q-Rosh

Thanks again for being part of my WB journey for another go around!  It's been weird already but sort of nice not recording another track this week.  It feels like in theory having more time to work should lead to better results, but I think I kind of need the deadlines.

Thanks for the analysis, and I liked the visuals you're describing.  I can see that, too!

Thanks!  I do think stories are how we make sense of the world, although they can certainly be used to mislead as well, as we've discussed at some point during this year.  Keep me posted on any album updates.  I've already gotten the ball rolling on it by uploading tracks to RouteNote for distribution.  I'm eyeing an April 1st release date for the first one and probably a second one in the summer.

Thanks, and thanks for the info.  I will definitely not be keeping up the weekly streak (I already broke it this week), but a monthly streak definitely seems doable.

Thanks again for being a part of the WB community this year and offering your ear and kind comments.

P.S. I listened to your episode of the Chasing the Beats Podcast this morning.  It was nice to learn a little more about you, your songs, your process, and your WB experience.  I can relate so much to a lot of what you discussed.  Cheers to 2025 and beyond!

I will miss the productivity and the weekly interactions with the community, but I'm not going to lie, it was nice to take a little break this week.  Good luck on organizing the studio!  Sound like it might be a big project, but hopefully one that will pay dividend.

Bye, Q-Rosh

Thanks for being a supportive listener, community member, and creator of such awesome sound worlds.  I'm compiling some of 2024's WB tracks to be released as albums a little later this year, and will hopefully get some work done on some music and/or a book this year.  President of the Galaxy is probably a little too ambitious for me, but you never know!
