Surrounded By Vampires

By Cosmic Cairns on October 30, 2024 10:02 pm

This week I decided to revisit a song I wrote 22 years ago.  I just have an old 4-track cassette version of it and I thought it would be fun to try to do an updated version.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Undead
Surrounded by vampires she said
I'd like to get in your head
For just a while

Maybe
You could somehow reshape me
But that sounds a little crazy
I just don't know

(whoa whoa whoa whoa)

Let me
Assure you you won't upset me
Even if you forget me
I'll keep my cool

Later
I feel like I'm made of paper
Before my annihilator
I changed my mind

(whoa whoa whoa whoa)

Tell me
Is this fixation unhealthy
It's starting to overwhelm me
I'm getting tired

Lovely
These lunatics interrupt me
So go ahead and corrupt me
Then do it again

(whoa whoa whoa whoa)

What a lovely track. Not what I expected from the title but totally what I'd expect from a Cosmic Cairns track. The lyrics are really good, you have a way with words and weaving a beautiful universe. The wowos from 1:35 are just perfectly appropriate. The descending arp like layers (or delay) around 1:50 was such a nice touch against the slow piano solo. Loved it. What a beautiful and sweet track.

A true cosmic cairns classic that survived time and has all ingredients that I wish from you. The lyrics are sweet and melody glues in my ears. Wonderfully reproduced.

charming!

Such a feel good catchy melody from beginning to end.  The woah-woahs had me humming along.  Indeed a track in your classic sound.  I like the extra brassy synth melody on top of everything as well. A bit of space-vampires with that sound smile

excellent melody and lots of treats for the ears! hooray for the song rescue!

Ah, sweetest vampires ever. I want to hang out in this land. Nice updated version! I like the whoa whoas. All the little extra sounds are really cool additions!

catchy AF. Love the horns and kind of detuned piano accents

Thanks!  I can see how it's probably not exactly the vibe the title suggests, but that's what I named it back in 2002.  When I look back at some of my songs from that time period I find the lyrics a little cringe, but I liked these ones okay, which is partly why I chose this one to revisit.  Thanks for listening and for the kind comment!

Thanks!  I have conflicting urges sometimes between wanting to revisit old songs and wanting to push forward with new ones.  There are a lot of diamonds in the rough from my past that could probably benefit from being revisited like this one.

I suppose the classic Cosmic Cairns sound has been brewing for a long time.  Space vampires sounds like a fun topic to visit.

Thanks!  The original was full of little ear candy moments.  I couldn't replicate all the sounds from it because I borrowed a friend's keyboard at the time and I wouldn't have any clue what settings I used anyway, so I did my best to replicate the spirit of it.

If you had to be around vampires, I guess these ones would be okay.  The flurry of sounds was something I did the first time around and I wanted to kind of recapture that.

Thank you kindly!  It was fun finding sounds for this for sure.
