Radiolucent

By Cosmic Cairns on April 24, 2026 8:20 pm

I think part of the fun of the creative process is that I never fully know what I'm going to end up with when I sit down and start.  I kind of discover it as I go.  Some weeks I have more of an idea at the beginning than others.  This week I didn't have any preconceived direction or ideas at all, which is sometimes kind of nice.  I kind of just pieced this together section by section until it felt "done" to me.  Some might consider it a little unfocused, but I prefer to think it covers  a nice little bit of ground and visits a few different locales.

I fell headfirst into a blinding swirl of melting colors
Rippling along towards the vast rainbow ocean
Prismatic waves swept forth revealing traits of distant planets
Radiolucent and harsh stormy atmospheres

Written in fables, a world made of dreams
Bridges the cosmos through hidden seams

Deep in a ghostly lake a sea nymph sings her song
To lull the moons to sleep and bring about the dawn

I alway start my week with a Cosmic Cairns track - i need the boost of positive energy.

The intro had a solemn castle section of RPG vibe with the trumpets. I like how it set the scene before going back into a more traditional Cosmic Cairns track with the acoustic guitar and singing. I must say the solo was EPIC - probably my favorite of yours so far. It had a great sound and melody and it was the cherry on top of this beautiful track. Favoriting it to be able to go back to it!

fantastic journey through the cosmos heart

Such a lovely intro that sets the scene for the verse and chorus sections.  An out of this world solo too \m/

shredding as always love the guitar!

I love that shimmery sound on your guitars, like a crystalline beauty that complements the sparkling lustre of your playing and songwriting. And the lyrics are so perfectly self-encompassed in both their descriptiveness and feel, all within just 4.5 minutes, how do you achieve such perfection?? Truly amazing, like the hidden seams that bridge the cosmos, just like you wrote. Purely Stunning. heart

This is awesome. Feels like it would be perfectly at home in a cinematic movie. I love the ecclectic nature of the changes and sections within the piece

A fantastical vista for a kinda mystical song. The intro feels like a small adventurer in a big place, with close and spare guitars against grandiose horns and woodwinds. Really like the panning echo. The vocal section is as drifting and dreamlike at this rainbow ocean, lots of color in the chord changes but no hard resolution anywhere. Love the chord turn on "through hidden seams." And the swinging drums in the outro are fun, bringing new energy to some wave-like synth stabs and backing swirls

(There's a science-fantasy game I love called Realis, which is set across a thousand moons. This feels like it could be one of those moons)

Fantastic. Such a journey!! I really enjoyed your use of delays throughout this!

This is beautiful. I love the uke and harmonies just before the electric guitar solo.

Thanks!  I do my best to try to bring a little positive energy when I can.  I need the boost, too.  I feel like the guitar solos have been flowing out of me easier this year, which has been nice.  I've often been getting them in just a take or two, when in the past I sometimes had to try them, like, a lot of times before I was semi-happy with them.

Thanks!  I sat down with nothing, and pieced that intro together, and everything else just seemed to flow out from there.

Thanks!  I've been feeling the guitar so far this year.  I think I've used it on every week's track except one.

Thank you for the kind comment.  It's very much appreciated.  I don't know if I've achieved anything near perfection, but I do try to do my best each week, whatever that ends up being.

Thanks!  The changes were a result of me not knowing where I was going with this, but each time I finished a section I'd get an idea for the next part.

Thanks!  A small adventurer in a big place seems like an apt description for how I often feel.  I'm not familiar with Realis, but it sounds cool.

Thanks!  I was initially just playing around with the delay effects, but I thought they sounded pretty cool, so they stayed in.

Thanks!  I really like harmonies, so I'm trying to push myself to include them a little bit more.

Thanks for the cool gif.  It feels like the perfect illustration for this song.

It's nice, sometimes. Other times it gives choice paralysis. It's also hard to gauge quality beforehand, but I reckon that's true of every creation process.

I imagine most artists "try" to create something of quality most of the time.  It doesn't always work out in the end, but the intentions are generally good.

A nice floating journey! I love where it goes, oh the places we'll go. I like starting with nothing and seeing what happens. Can be scary, but that's ok. Sometimes the preconceived plan feels like work, but free form feels like exploring the universe.

I agree.  It's nice sometimes to have a starting idea of some sort, but some of my favorite weeks are when I sit down with no ideas at all.  A completely blank canvas means the possibilities are endless.
