Elevation

By Cosmic Cairns on April 3, 2026 11:45 pm

I had a couple of sketches of ideas floating around that I merged together and fleshed out to make the music.  Then when it came time to come up with some lyrics, I started thinking about an early morning scene and just sort of improvised from there.

________________________________________________________________________________

When the Eastern sky begins to glow
And the blades of grass are glistening with dew
Hear the songs that only the morning birds know
As the goddess of dawn walks beside you
Into the day

And the old growth trees are all tuning in
To a signal sourced from places unknown
And you soar through clouds to elevations
Where you occupy a world of your own
And float away

Come float away, come float away
Come float away, come float away

Air currents flow, they crest and they fall
Brisk eddies whirl then slow to a crawl

And I remember peculiar times
Lost past distant horizons
It seems I've been dead to you most of my life
Except for rare frigid environs

And I know not where the story will go
Every pathway stretches out far and wide
We'll end up where the cold wind chooses to blow
And another soul might float alongside you
In the dawn

I love this melody and the time signature, it sounds like spring. Beautiful!

well that was an absolute delight! this gets the CCC rating:
COSMIC CAIRNS CLASSIC

great imagery and lyrics! double track vox sounding tiiiight! Killer mix as well

loving the hopeful lyrics and uplifting melody.  Excellent guitar solo and love the piano theme that follows it.  Well done!

very well done, floating away indeed.

Could not agree more! 100% delighted!!!

What a delightfully playful tune! Really enjoying the vivid descriptions of nature throughout the lyrics. 😊

This was great! Love the singing

This feels like a jaunty cousin to Blueshire. The melody feels like a lullaby, even with everything happening around it. Organ oom-pah-pahs along like an old-timey calliope (love the riff!). I really like the wistful feel of the lower organ on the second verse and the guitar doubling the vocals in the third verse.

Still chewing on the introduction of "I" in the third verse: someone this "you" left to find peace but who is now trying to reconnect? Does "I" want to be that other soul floating alongside "you," or does "I" just want happiness for "you" even if they're apart? And why have *I* chosen such a confusing way to write about it? Idk, but I like it

I am floating away. This makes me happy, I'm going to leave the computer now and go outside into the sun. Thank you. Great tune. CCC indeed!

beautiful!

Thanks!  It felt like the lyrics and images sort of just flowed out of me on their own for this one.

Thanks!  I appreciate the thought an analysis you put into your comments.  I generally try not to overthink or overexplain the lyrics, so it's interesting to hear other people's interpretations.  That said it occurs to me that any song about "you" implies there's an "I" singing it.  As for that particular section "I" know intuitively what it means to "me" the writer of the song, but it's certainly open to "you" the listener to make of it what you will and "I" think "you" have got some good theories.  smile

Going outside is always a good choice I think.  Our modern technology filled lives are pulling us too much away from nature, and it's good to go reconnect sometimes.  Thanks for listening!

I guess I am feeling 3's and 6's lately.  The funny part is when I first sat down to record this, I didn't even realize it.  I had the opening melody line in my head and I initially tried to set it to a 4/4 beat, but it became apparent very quickly that it wasn't going to work out so well  smile
