Amaranth Forest

By Cosmic Cairns on May 8, 2024 6:55 pm

When I was young we used to have a bunch of amaranths growing in our yard and I remember being impressed by how tall they could grow.  Thinking back on that I just had a mental image of wandering through a giant forest comprised of them.

Getting that helpless feeling
More options fade away
I'll retreat into a wild
And forgotten place

A forest vast and untamed
Millions of amaranths
Leaves rustle as the wind blows
Through the mighty plants

Deep in the sprawling growth
The forest creatures know
There's still hope

Mesmerized by the colors
Orange purple green and red
I hear an echo of the words
That went unsaid

The amaranths engulf me
And burrow deep within
I don't believe I'll ever
Join the world again

Sweet vocal harmonies, uplifting guitars and a funky bassline.  The tones you get at the end reminded me of Hendrix wailing smile  nice work!

Dig the doubled and panned piano that accents the vocal melody. The synth bridge/break at 1:36 is super cool! Very hendrix guitar outro. Cool lyrics and story, great work!

"there's still hope"
love this one, Cosmic Cairns heart

ps: that fuzzy guitar outro rules

An Amaranth really has a pretty exotic appearance. A wonderful world you are leading me into. Who did the the drums and how?

great again!  The track really grows as it goes on. I also like those dramatic interlude sounds and rather radical ideas you put here and there and especially the descending thing in the end. They take this song to a new heights´...Fantastic!

Great song. You really paint a soundscape.  You really do a good job of creating one large feeling with both the music and the lyrics.  I really like the extended part at the end with the "solo" guitar and all music to end it.

Oh I really like the guitar (?) melodies that appear to be hard panned. They are both magical and nostalgic. This track has really a lot of soul. That ending was magic as well! Loved that sound and raw playing!

Thanks!  At the end I used a setting on my Boss effects pedal called something like "spirit of 69" that I imagine is designed to imitate the Hendrix sound.  I just thought it sounded cool here.

Thanks!  Sometimes I just feel like breaking up the flow for a second and that synth bridge seemed like a good way to do it.

Drums are from a sample pack.  I looped and spliced to fit my needs.

The descending thing was a bit of a spur of the moment idea, but I liked the way it turned out.

Thanks!  Sometimes it's nice to just shut up and play some music.

Thanks!  I think the panned parts you're referring to start off as synths, but then I replace them with a guitar on the second go around.  Then there's lots of guitars at the end with a little bit of synth accompaniment.

Aw, thanks, you're too kind.  I would have to figure some stuff out to do this justice at a live show, but maybe someday!
