Back Into Blue

By Chrisfoo on January 23, 2022 11:04 pm

This is an idea I was tinkering with a bit last year which is based off an idea from WB 2020.  There was a lot about this track I didn't like so never finished last year, but after revisiting it with my new 2022 goals in mind I was able to make it work.  The song is the same, but I basically retracted, arranged and mixed everything.  Changed key so I could hit the vocal part better, got better vocal takes and deleted a lot of unnecessary synth layers (although this is still pretty dense, but better than it was).  I'd love to have a real guitar player rip a real solo on this one day though.  I'm sure it would work a lot better than the sloppy, Frankensteined thing that I pieced together, haha.

Lyrics:

I’m a prisoner of my free time what can I do?
But I was going off the deep end until I met you
Always looking for a new vice to eat up my time
Always looking for a new drug to cloud up my mind

I think I’m falling, I think I’m falling
back into blue

Enoughs enough I said, I had it I cant take anymore
But I keep waiting for a way out I dont need to work for
I keep thinking that I’ll wake up and I’ll just be okay
But I keep slipping in the same places every day

I think I’m falling, I think I’m falling
back into blue

That's a really cool groove on the synths.  I agree it's plenty dense as is, but sounds good to me.  I liked the guitar solo, too.

Nice groove. I dig the chorus. Cool way to end the song, too

Good lyrics and vocal melodies here, great chorus!

Massively groovy! Love the bassline and the overall feel of this track! Reminds me of early 'Teddybears STHLM'!
Keep it up!

The intro reminds me of MOBY a lot. Same kind of airy ambiance but where you can dance on it.

I dig your vocals, very nice. And guitar solo does what it have to do smile. Well done.

This is fuckin awesome.  Well done.  I hope i can get the motivation to write something this cool this year.  i agree with djippy.   I hear a lot of MOBY vibes in this song

Ahhh love that guitar solo @2:09

Great song! Smooth and flowing. Good vox and lyrics and nice full textural sound. Tasty guitar solo too.

Man your guitar work is great, and your solo rocks. Frankensteined for the win, if you ask me haha

That grindy bass synth is awesome! Cool interchange between that synth and the vocals.  Like this blend of electronic and rock sound. Faved!

The rubber synth bass is really cool, adds a lot of personality to this track. Great singing on this track. I like the whole instrumentation, with the synth, the beat and especially that bass synth. This is a trip. The chorus is really cool. I'd buy an album of that kind of music. That was cool!

this got me on the "bittersweet symphony" tip, because you have the epic strings, the tight beat, and then you have a really nice, light touch to your voice.

The drum fill on "I think i'm falling" is really really really smart.  Great buzz bass and the off time delay ending was a real treat.

UMMMM I'm pretty sure you ripped an epic solo there buddy.  Hate to be the bearer of bad news!

I don't know, man, that solo at 2:10 is pretty damn sweet

Thanks dudes.  And to clarify, I like the idea of the solo and think it fits well there.  I just think it sounds a little hacky (at least to my ears) the way you can hear the parts where I punched in at.

Great song. I find myself in it again, for some reason. Nice combo of synths and rock guitar. I can see you could be building up a dope album out of some of these submissions!

The funny thing is I first thought of some kind of police type thing when you sang "back into blue" rather than getting the blues or whatev XD then I figured I'm probably reading too much reddit/twitter scandal. Also I was thinking of some kind of blue collar job vs freelancer type thing, cause you sing about free time and that you don't wanna work, so I'm thinking what kind of sexy boss lady did this guy meet that made him make this song? I have to say I still don't understand what the song is about but what I know for sure is that I like it and I'm somewhere in it big_smile

this almost flips in time with the drums. and it's a great pick for the vibes.

super fun man (been catching up on week 3 that i didn't get to listen to yet)

This is sick. Really interesting synth work and the melodies are so good.
Really well written too!

Ooh damn those epic intro strings sound sweet!  The synth bass is super catchy and had me nodding along immediately.  This track rocks dude!  Love the guitar solo too. Those lil synth arp twirls are a nice touch.  Dang I had to listen to this one again!

Thanks man!  Yeah, I put out an album last year with my 2020 stuff so it'd be cool to be able to do that again.  We'll see how it goes.  Also, haha no its not a back the blue song.  Not even necessarily about the blues, just more so about bad lifestyle choices/decision making in general that's been creeping back into my life pretty much since covid.  Not sure exactly why I chose falling into blue, but it seemed like a fitting color for the subject matter.  I find myself writing to literally a lot, so I like to throw in some abstraction when I can.

I appreciate it!  If you're the lead synth part, its a VST called pendular.  Its definitely capable of making some truly wild and unique sounds.  You can get it free here if you want:  https://www.eventideaudio.com/plug-ins/pendulate/#pendulate_giveaway

Thanks dude, glad you like it!  Thanks for calling out those little arps too, those were one of the first elements of this track and I really liked them for some reason and probably why I stuck with this one.

Fun track. The buzz sound spices this track up nicely.
