A Lifetime

I've been helping a buddy track some bass for most of the week so I didn't start working on my WB project until Friday night.  Instead of trying to write something from scratch, I went back through my project folder to see if I had any old ideas I could breath some life into and came across this guy.  This song was supposed to be the last song on my EP I released in December but I lost sense of what I wanted it to sound like back then so I threw it out.  When I listened to it on Friday I instantly knew what to do and ended up spending like most of the weekend retracking pretty much the whole song and I'm feeling pretty good about how it turned out.  I definitely could have used another day to rest my ears before mixing, but I dont think it turned out terrible.

Listen for the synth lead after the chorus.  Roland SE-01 that I borrowed from a buddy, I fucking love that tone.

Great tones as usual and the mix is fantastic. Glad you shared this oldie but newie!

Ahh man, I love the lead guitar in this, and the way its echoed in the synth line. Really cool.

Thanks man!  Yeah I’m really glad I finished it, it’s been in the back of my mind for awhile.

Thanks man!  That guitar lead was how this whole tune started.

this is a solid, beautiful song. It catched me immediately. Should be running on the radio.

Your music always seems so "big" I love it.  You've definitely got a signature sound and it's great.  Love the guitar leads.  Nice work as usual

Atta boy Foo. Another week, another banger. Per usual.

This is phenomenal.  That Rolands got such a good sound, reminds me of some of the best classic rock key players sounds.  "at least its gonna teach me to build a better person of mySELFF" fuck, that part is awesome.  Catchy as hell.  great job

Awesome man, thanks!  What I was hoping to gain from weekly beats was to hone in on my sound.  Glad to hear its starting to show.

Dude I know, right?  Its so like something you'd hear on a floyd album or something.  I need to steal that thing from him again at some point, I love it.  Glad you were digging the tune too man, thanks!

Great story and track. Inspirational to hear how you can be at a creative stopping point, then revisit months later and know exactly what to do. Beautiful vocals as always.  Piano work really shines melodically. Loving those synth lines just past the mid point (a bit pushed back in the mix), sounds like noodling around on an old minimoog. The organ swells come in just at the right time to add lift to the track.  Doubled guitar part at the end is nice touch.  I'm totally geeking out on your composition/arrangement skills! Top notch!

I appreciate the tone and balance of this mix a lot, it's really well done. The piano in the background is also lovely! Vocal doubling also on point, bit of a banger this.

It turned out great, and didn't take a lifetime either.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.  I'm glad you can pick up on all the little nuances in here, it really validates the effort put in.

Thanks!  Haha for sure, just 5 months.

Love that keyboard line that counters off your vocals.  Your voice reminds me a bit of Ben Gibbard of DCFC.  Really enjoy how the chorus starts off and gets answered by the keys.  It's always cool when you can give new life to an old unfinished song.  Killer guitar solo at the end.

Thanks man!  I've never been compared to Ben Gibbad before but I'll take it.

Damn dude, there's a lot going on in here. Composition is fantastic, the synth leads are perfect. One of my favorites this year for sure.

I hopped over here to check out a couple of your tracks at Jokinen's suggestion (he thought our styles would mesh well).  I like the vocals and arrangement.  My favorite moment was the kind of descending keyboard line at about 1:22 that pops up again later.

Awesome, thanks man.  Glad you like it, looks like I made the right choice by finishing it up.

Awesome man, thanks!  Good to find someone else writing in a similar style.  I've definitely gotten a ton of inspiration from a few people on here who are writing in our vein.  Just added you to my favorites list, I'm looking forward to check out some of your tunes.

that synth!  so nice!
