Piano Solo in Dmin

By Bunjigram on July 28, 2024 11:59 pm

Uploading this with about 1 minute to spare !! Doodled around with a lot of things this afternoon until I landed on this little melody in Dmin.  Kinda somber, but also has a nostalgic feel to it I think. I liked the Arturia V.3 patch I found called Antartica with some custom tweaks on my part. Not sure what to call it yet so will just name it Piano Solo in Dmin (original, eh?) Anyway, thanks for listening. - RCN

Ah yais my favorite minor key.  Such a haunting melody that comes in at 1:25.  Enjoyed the final chord landing on a happy spot too smile

Hit submit a bit too early there, meant to also add the chilly thick sound of that piano def comes thru and it really shines on the melody.

Thanks for the comments. "Chilly thick" sound is a good description - kinda warm in the lower register and a bit cooler in the upper. Yeah, I'm finding that with some tweaks to the modeled V.3 Piano patches, they can sound pretty good. Thanks for listening.

I've done a lot in Cm and Gm, but hadn't worked in Dm in a while.  The final chord was a split-second decision right before I played it.  I thought I might regret it, but it actually worked.

Such a lovely composition.  I really love the how the melody lifts at 0:57, and the half-cadence at 1:09 is just SOOOO well placed harmonically.  Beautifully performed as well.  I think this piece makes me think of French impressionist piano... maybe something by Erik Satie particularly with that modal interchange on the last chord... feels like it's making its way into a second movement.  Very nice.

Lovely - particularly liked the melodic motion that was happening at around 1:20. Love the tempo and feel, gave the composition plenty of room to breathe. And that ending chord , nice resolution. All hail the Picardy third! big_smile

Full of emotion, and the sound is very well crafted. The piano timbre is excellent, the reverb is just right, you can feel the dynamic range. Very good stuff!

Thanks Napear. Erik Satie, eh? I can definitely see how this might be similar to some of his quieter, atmospheric sonatas. I'm not classically trained, so that is a huge compliment sir. Thanks for listening.

I have to admit I was not familiar with the Picardy third.  Now I am, and that's why of really like being part of this community.  I learn so much from everyone. Funny you say "breathe" as that is what I've been working on with my music.  I have a tendency to rush or play to aggressively, and this was an attempt to slow down and try to truly listen and be more expressive in the flow.  I really appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for the comments.  I've been experimenting with adjusting preset piano patches that often sound hollow or generic without modifying them to suit the mood and space you are trying to express. I've found it makes a huge difference. I've never recorded in this patch, and I think the composition arose out of the sound itself.  Thanks for listening.

gorgeous

It's great but I'm getting this weird rustle sound on headphones.

Thanks for listening.  Not sure what the rustle sound you are hearing.  I don't hear it on any of my headphones and I haven't received any other feedback about.  But thanks for letting me know.
