Unstable collider

This is just the sketch of the track I was working on using Reaper under Linux. Everything was fine for most of the session but once I added ZynAddSubFX and the program crashed, hell broke loose.

I couldn't recover one of the tracks and most of the structure got lost, so I converted this one into a huge 2 minute rise. I know it's kinda dumb, but I was about to run out of time and Pipewire/Jack was stubbornly trying to use some HDMI output as main output, instead of my soundcard.

I do love Linux, but these types of crashes are the ones that kill productivity. I'm also a rookie when it comes to Reaper, so maybe was a combination of both.

Anyway, week's been pretty difficult, but I had a quite weekend.

I'm sleepy and frustrated now, but I think the Linux Studio Plugins are harsh to learn but sound pretty good (They are responsable for all the delay, reverb, filtering and limiting on the track)

Have a nice one, WB Family smile I'm a huge Linux fan, but at this moment I just want my bed and a Macbook ... just a little one smile

I do love Linux, but sometimes I have to admit it's not ready for prime time in the same way as macOS or Windows

Really cool spiraling sort of feels with the synth and delays.  Hope the crash_gnomes give you a rest next week smile

Thanks a lot for yout kind words, Eric!!! Yeah, crashes are pretty frustrating, and I know commercial software is also not always safe (I have a particular love/hate relationship with NI products)

I'm really glad you dig my bleeps smile

Fantastic track... I love use of delay.  The sound design on the synth voices are also just fantastic.  The automation on the filter cutoff on the main voice is just perfect for the way it interplays with the delay.  Great example of musical development through sound design.  And I can relate to the Linux struggles... my personal desktop is Linux, and while I do some musical sketching on it from time to time (in Reaper, Re-Noise) and build most of my VCV Rack patches there... but all my serious production is done on a Mac... because it just works, and that counts for a lot.
