A Good Life

By Bunjigram on August 18, 2024 5:48 pm

So last week I broke WB Rule #6 and uploaded a WIP. But, I'm glad I did because I got some great feedback that helped me to add some variation and turn my WIP into a finished song over 3 minutes. It also gave me an opportunity to work in Ableton a lot more, playing with different arrangements, adjusting timing, and tweaking the velocity of some notes that were just too harsh in the specific modeled piano patch I was using. I'm tempted to invest in Pianoteq or Keyscapes (opinions appreciated), but am content at this stage to continue working with Arturia's Piano V.3 instruments. Trust me, that's a huge step up from formerly doing everything on my Kawai ES8 internal recorder using only Kawai piano patches.

Anyway, this song is meant to feel uncomplicated, tender, and pure. I named it "A Good Life" as a tribute to my Dad who was a tremendous role model for me in how he lived his life and loved his family. As always, thanks for listening. -- RCN

It's complete now heart When I saw the title, I knew I was in for an emotional impact.

I liked this piece a lot last week, and I particularly love it now. It's become a journey; the title is perfect. Such great structure. When the melody soars up at 2:45, that got an "ooh" out of me. Heartfelt beauty, and a lovely composition. Well done.

Came together really nice! The hard work paid off. The ornamental trill at 1:48 is really cool. Very warm, tender, and joyful. It tells a story of a good life

I agree, this really turned out nice, bravo.  I really like both the section around 0:50, and the one around 1:30, really nice changes to the overall color.  Very pretty piece.

welp, that's me misty eyed over here.
i love where you took this. heart

Wow, thanks for your kind words. That means a lot! I actually debated keeping that high end part because this patch loses some of it qualities with the higher notes, but glad I did now.  Thanks for listening.

Thanks, and especially for introducing me to Ableton and other ways to expand my music. Looking forward to learning much more and glad to know I have your knowledge and experience to guide me smile

Thanks for your comments, Napear. I also appreciate your feedback the week prior that helped me to add some color to this by introducing different chords and cadence about midway through. It needed a transition or bridge to separate the latter phrases that have slight variations. Thanks for listening and offering your ideas.

Rule #6, Rule numba #Schmicks tongue  I may have uploaded a wip in the past but not told anyone yikes  but it stayed as is anyways.  Such a calming chord progression right from the start.  Lovely and heartfelt playing as always.  This paints a picture ala Forrest Gump on a park bench talking to a stranger about his whole life.  Excellent work!

Thanks TM! Appreciate the feedback. Now I'm thinking instead of "A Good Life", I should have called it "Life is Like a Box of Chocolates".  LOL

well this is a delight!

Very pleasant piece. Has a very sentimental feel.

WB can be whatever you make of it. I wouldn't stress about submitting WIPs. It's a song. Another version might come out later but is is the one for the week and deadline you have. That certainly. counts for something.

Thanks ENC. Yeah, I agree with you about WB. I'm sure most of us tweak and change our songs all the time.  WB provides a good excuse to share what we got even if it ain't tweaked out yet. smile

The volume boost is much appreciated, and the Christmas vibe is much reduced, something about the different piano sound just does that.
A good song.
