Riptide

Really proud of this one. This week's tune was a collaboration between me and my bestie, theaeon.

We used to live and jam in the same town but he recently moved to Chicago. This weekend he happened to be back in town for a couple days so I figured we could do a weekly beat together as opposed to just a guest spot/solo thing like he's done a couple times in the past.

This song was a true collaboration, about a 50/50 mix writing both lyrics and instrumentation. We went really hard on this one, with a total of about 24 hours working time start to finish. When he arrived Friday afternoon I had 4 lines of lyrics and two chord progressions, and by the end of the day we had the song mostly fleshed out. Saturday was tracking and tweaking and a rough mix, followed by final mixing and polishing this morning.

I think this one turned out really well. We have written an EP and album in the past and this 2-day song stands up pretty well against anything we've ever done. Sometimes it just comes together like that I guess.

theaeon: bass, keyboards, lead guitars, main vocals
blighters rock: drums, rhythm guitars, harmony vocals

Solid work! Will come back on this one for sure.

Wow, this is absolutely phenomenal!
It also keeps surprising, really didn't expect that 2:15 twist
I would've liked to have the vocals be a little stronger tho, the music reminds me of Shadow Academy, but I wish I could hear the words a little better (also like Shadow Academy)

Thanks much! Glad it kept you interested throughout. I appreciate the feedback about the vocals.

love that you got to jam in person with your friend - you can feel the great energy!

I listened to this earlier this week but I forgot to comment. This turned out great, it's super polished (like the tastefully used trailing delay on some of the verse lines), the mix is pretty on par with past studio material, I really dig all the lead guitar melodies here and that interlude in particular is really cool. And of course, great and powerful chorus section. I like that the words for the chorus are different every time. The final section is powerful with the driving kick pattern.

Thanks a lot! That middle section was definitely the hardest part to develop and fit properly into the song. Theaeon fought hard for it, over my reservations and objections at first. Eventually I came around on it. By a stroke of bittersweet luck, his flight was delayed, giving us some extra polishing time at the end. Glad you think it stands up well against the album stuff.
