Head Up

I bought a new (to me) bass, and so I wanted to do something bass-focused. Lots of tasty bits in here that I'm happy with. Saturday I recorded a couple some bass licks I've been playing around with over the past week, then started arranging things and forming a song around it. Usually it's these ones that surprise me with how much I like them.

Thanks to my buddy theaeon for coming over this morning and handling the electric guitar. I couldn't have done a better job, and certainly not as fast as he did.

The bass - riffing and tone - sounds sick nasty. Vocals are especially nice here too, verse grabbed me and the chorus has a nice hook. Solo section has kind of a rush vibe that's pretty cool. Great job with the lyric writing as well!

That was sick! That new bass sounds great. I really dig the rhythms in this one. I love the giant catchy chorus and the way the guitars move to the background in the verses letting the vocals and bass shine.

Solid work!

I really like the klanky bass tone. What kind of bass is this?

Vocals melodies and harmonies are very cool too.

Nice job! Cool hook at the chorus. Lead guitar's good, too!

I agree with the others, the bass sounds great. Fantastic tone and licks. Solid piece.

This bass slaps.

Sorry everyone for the late responses here. I appreciate all the comments

Thanks, mate. Rush is definitely the vibe I was ripping for that bridge section.

Glad you dig the sound. That bass has zing that goes to 11. Didn't even have the bridge pickup all the way up for these takes.

Thanks a ton! Bass is a Fender Jazz, American Standard

Slappa de beiss, mon!

I have a Fender Squire bass, I wonder how different it would feel if I upgraded?  The bass sounds great!  Through a mic'ed bass amp or direct or?

Awesome song and theaeon crushing it again!!

Thanks! Bass recorded through a SansAmp RBI. I brought theaeon with me to a few local music shops and we tried all the basses I was interested in. He's much more a guitar expert than I. Most store basses don't feel very good, and/or don't sound very good. This particular one just started singing in my hands, though. Felt great, sounded great. Kicked the crap out of every other instrument there. Strongly recommend trying a whole bunch and finding your soul-mate. I'm big into the jazz bass because of all the zing you can get from it. I love me some zingin' bass.

you are a really good bassist!  there is some serious Z I N G

I just saw that the Mark Hoppus signature bass doesn't have a tone knob - LOVE THAT!  My Jazzmaster doesn't have a tone knob either!!!
