An Ugly Situation

By blighters_rock on October 23, 2022 11:15 pm

Wrote the main chorus thing sometime earlier this year. Dusted it off this week and wrote the rest of the song. It's pretty silly.

I think my production and mixing has come a long way this year, but I'm still very open to suggestions on things that could be improved.

I still feel like I'm guessing when I pick reverbs.

This is a good ad for plastic surgery for sure. I like this, the mix is good, the drums are a smash hit, the bass is grooving and the guitar is sound. My one point of contention would be that one note in the bridge, I think you know the one.

Heh, thanks! Oh yes, I know the note! That note is on theme, and intentionally uncomfortable! Glad it worked wink! Thanks for listening.

Excellent sound all around. The mastering is exquisite. How many in your band? Sounds like at least 3? You guys could pack crowds!

I like where the title of this song went, haha. Mix sounds really great, I don't think I have any criticisms of it. Your mix skills have improved significantly over the course of the year as well as your song writing and lyricism.

Band of one currently. Me on all instruments for this one. Thanks for the great compliments! Would love to take some of my WB music out onto the stage.

Thanks! What an experience this has been!

Love that energy, such a rush, made this ugly situation feel more like a dancy situation! big_smile

Very cool track again.

Reverbs-spatial effects are pretty difficult to use indeed. With that much verb on the guitar, I wouldn't mind more on the snare, but it is all about taste so all good. My go to reverb this year is the arturia plate one that I had free at some point with my focusrite soundcard, I do push the "saturation knob" all the way up, but always use it as an aux send bus.

For crazier stuff I love the https://valhalladsp.com/shop/reverb/valhalla-supermassive/ that sounds great.

Anyways! always a pleasure to listen to your tracks, and fun to listen to another multi-instrumentalist musician that takes the time to build some tracks all by himself.

Thanks so much for the constructive feedback and recommendations. Now that you point it out, I hear what you mean about the snare vs guitar reverb.

I've been using exclusively valhalla stuff for a bit, but unfortunately having awesome plugins doesn't make me awesome at using them.

If you (or anyone!) have any specific resources or anything that you think are good for understanding how to methodically choose reverb sounds and amounts.

This one is actually very cool!

I don't do much of the mentionned tricks, but Izabelle does nicely explain mutliple ways to use reverbs:
