Tangled Undergrowth

By dr0ptpacket on October 23, 2022 11:21 pm

Finally got to scratch an itch I've had since 1996. The m8 makes it possible. Any/all advice is much appreciated.  Please be critical/harsh. I played with trackers as a youth and it was all about samples and this week I stumbled upon two treasure troves (links below).

Incluso en los lugares más oscuros...
Los que llevan luz siempre la encuentran.

Even in the darkest places...
Those who carry light always find it.

Great jungling here - familiar but fresh.. I've used those resources myself whenever I want to try some jungle-by-numbers and do the same as you... go back to the 90s. Amazing looking back behind the curtain with these things.

Great work

Yeah! Back in the 90's! Nice one

YASSSSS i love this jungle 90s stuff to death, takes me back to Killer Instinct and 1080 Snowboarding soundtracks.

I need a video with Max Headroom doing all the vocal lines and singing the synth lines

Ooooh nice taking me back to my early days of discovering electronic music as a kid.  Excellent use of the break reminds me a bit of Spring Heel Jack mixed with some Prodigy.  The M8 sounds pretty sweet!

Too kind sir! Exactly the sound I'm aiming for. The m8 will sound even better if I learn to treat it right... Still learnin'.

Another 90s jungle/drum and bass fan here.  Still like some hard hitting drum and bass type stuff.  I'd love to try out a M8 one day.  Everyone seems to love them.

Okay we have a quorum! More (and hopefully heavier hitting) jungle and DNB stuff on the way! smile

This is fuggin dope!!!! I don't think I have any feedback to give as this is better than what I tossed out. Love the passthrough fade ins and outs which is something Ive been meaning to try out.

You are too kind sir, but I'm glad you approve. The beat chopping that really makes this song possible (and even the break sample pack itself) I learned from  this youtube video.  What is the passthrough fade ins/outs? I must be doing it on accident? Which part are you talking about?

Add another 90s jungle & breaks fan to the list!   The opening wasn't even over before I had my "someone's nailing it FYEAH" smile going. tongue  The bass motif + keys riff feel great together, and I could easily see them doing well in early 90s clubs.

I'm not the best at articulating feedback for EDM, but since you asked for some thoughts: to my early jungle-biased ears, the way everything builds back up starting from the bass after 2:00+ feels like it should eventually bust loose into some higher-end breaks at some point, or―alternatively―the general track could just use a few higher-frequency elements to make the mix pop a little more clearly.

Excellent feedback. Exactly the reason I'm here, thank you so much for listening/commenting.

Noice! Got that Moby vs. Orbital momentum to it. Killer jungle-rave vibe achieved heart
