Skank Biscuit

This week's track is another M8 sketch.
Screwed up my settings while recording guitar mid way through and they sounded kinda different, so I slapped entirely too much reverb on the B section guitars to try and make them sit a little better. (It worked okay I guess, but I'd definitely rerecord all the guitar parts if I had the time)

Trying to work out the logistics of a live set with some of my stuff this week. Boil my kit down to an amp and my M8 and maybe my Minifreak if I'm feeling saucy.

Thanks M8! Using the line out from my Katana MKII right into my M8. The Katana is on the 'Brown' amp which is a Soldano and I'm using my 7 string with Fishman Fluence pickups in em.

That riff is so badass and the kick and bass get deliciously pump-and-drive in the build, awesome track!

I have literal goosebumps. All the elements work well with each other, and the axe sounds fantastic. I can't get enough of the kick and bass synth in the build either. SO good.

Thank you! I'm really happy with the intro.

High praise! Thank you! I think the intro and the rise would make a killer show opener.

Right?! I’m listening to WB on random at work, and that was the spot where I picked up the phone to see what I was listening to.

Love this! I had no idea you could record into a M8 like this, this is one of the most creative things I’ve heard using that platform. The drop to the synth pulse in the middle was great, and then that insane pumping at the end drove the energy to 12. Awesome track!

Yeah! The M8's audio in is sensitive and you gotta tweak the incoming signal, but it's so nice and so fast to edit samples on.
Thank you so much for the high praise. There are so many talented artists here using their M8's.

I agree, the riff is great. My favorite overall part is at 2:45 tho, when the synth comes in - so good. Would love to hear a finished, "non-sketchy" version of this big_smile

Yeah, I love that drop at 2:45.
It's not too far off its final form, I just gotta rerecord and clean up those guitar parts.
The plan is to build an album of these for a live set, do the final clean up and recording then torment local venues with my bullshit.

The arps had me from the beginning, knowing something is lurking on the horizon.  The guitar is an awesome wall of sound and when that synth line midway kicks in oh hail yais! \m/ Love the drums too as the guitar gurgles through them with the sidechain.  Excellent lead lines that get introduced too.  Well done!

Thank you! The opening arps were so ominous it almost changed the entire direction of the track to a brutal doom kinda feel. I'm happy I stuck with the high energy uhh techno-rock? Synth-metal? Techno-doom? I wish I knew what genre I was in.

I love the sound design on that FM bell sound that first comes in around 0:30... awesome dark synth vibe to it.  It reminds me of something specifically too... but I just can't place it... something creepy from the 80's for sure... but that's kinda always the goal right, familiar enough that it sounds pleasing but different enough that people can't place why it sounds familiar.

It really does sound like an FM bell, but it's the bell oscillator shape on the Macrosynth in the M8 (which I believe is Mutable Instruments Braids). I was considering sampling the nearby church bell and swapping it in the final version, but I may keep the bell. It really does fit.
Thanks for listening!

Ahh... makes sense... and yeah, the M8 Macrosynth is just a clone of Braids, and Braids uses an additive synthesis for both the Bell and Harm(onic) models.  I'm not sure how many sine waves it folds, but makes sense that it sounds so FMy.

Damn, that's one strong cookie. It feels like the autoduck does basically nothing for the drums, where just amplifying them would work better.

This was super cool! I really enjoyed this combination of metal and dance music. The whole thing flows really well from start to finish. I thought that effect you used where the volume swells in an out was really cool and added a lot of interest to that part of the tune. Really nice work!

I definitely overdid the side chaining a lil. Amping drums is good advice. Thank for listening!

Thanks so much! I'm really digging my little dance metal hole I've dug for myself!
