Crossing the Rubicon

By BarristerPlong on March 15, 2026 6:17 pm

I was playing with the FM synth on the M8 a bunch and made what I thought was a pretty dreamy electric piano patch.
The track is very minimalist, it's just simple chords with notes being brought in and out. The delay and shimmer reverb on the M8 are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I staggered the delays and with the shimmer reverb single notes create this dreamy feeling.
Overall I felt the track was very somber and tense. It felt like the quiet night before a battle, or the goodbyes of a soldier to his family.

In the non music side of things, things haven't gotten better, but they also haven't gotten worse. Stabilizing and moving forward because there is nowhere else to go.

Happy week 11 pals! Kiss your homies on the mouth.

Really lovely FM patch, inspires me to do FM! Great atmosphere and feel. Great track!

Wild showcase of what you can do on M8 smile this sounds so massive while still feeling airy heart

I should really learn to not submit my comment before the track is over! That lead is really cool!

Great sound design all around! Love the atmosphere, and that grumbly attack bass is fantastic.

Nice progression on this one. You made the most of the elements. I am anticipating a harvest of souls next week after two weeks of beautifully calm introspection.

I can feel that night before a battle vibe.  It's mostly peaceful and soothing, but there's an undercurrent of tension.  Like trying to enjoy the moment but feeling both anticipation and apprehension of what the next day will bring.  It gets quite epic sounding as it progresses as well.

killer FM work!

Feeling those lovely meditative vibes from the epiano and dark bass.  It takes an epic turn when the drums and sweet lead come in.  Love the groove of the drums too.  Excellent sound!

great vibes !!! its been on a loop several times today during my working hours !!! nicely done!

Thank you! I was really happy with the tracks gradual evolution. I was worried the lead would take too much out of it, but it sits really well.

Less is more on this one, love how that patch gets to shine front and center while the drone is shifting in the background.  So nice how the drums and lead synth come in at the end.

I like this. feels firmly rooted in your sonic universe too even though youre experimenting with new sounds. I love the little wonky tape lead and the progression surprised me more than once in a good way. nice work!

I love love love sound design and almost every track I start from scratch with new instruments. It's just so much fun to explore all the weird shit synthesis can achieve.

Amazing sound design and excellent use of the different instruments throughout the track. Love the atmosphere in this one!
