Iniquity

Iniquity
gross injustice / a wicked act or thing
From: inīquus (“unequal, uneven, unfair; disadvantageous, unfavourable; hostile, unkind; unsuitable; wicked, wrong”)
Photo: Me, about 24 years old, when I experienced iniquity.
(also me while trying to figure out Synplant 2)

Reason for the title: The track felt hostile, unkind, uneven, slightly wrong.

Can't say much about the track itself; it feels somewhat alien, and I think the title I gave it fits.
As always, I put a lot of emphasis on the pan pot (panning/stereo), and since I already finished the track on a Wednesday, I spent another day really pushing the mastering to its loudest without sacrificing depth. I feel like I quite succeeded at it.

The og goal for this track was to properly try SynPlant 2. For those who don't know what that is, it's a VST synth that can turn any sound into a synthesised sound, generate random versions of that sound, and you have near full control over the sound afterwards. (ADSR, LFO, Effects, etc)
It's cool, but using the tool is… unfavourable, weird, and feels really experimental.
I’ve owned Synplant for two+ years now, but never used it in production.

This track uses seven Synplant 2 patches, one Diva Synth, Phoscyon 2 synth, and LØW, a bass-synth that's really cool and different.

Since I own a bleeeepload of VSTs but always fall back to the same ones, I made a list of all the VSTs I own and will try to incorporate some of them every week.

This is really fun. The opening gave me Earthbound vibes of weirdness in all the best ways.

This feels like an epic space journey.  Loads of cool warped and warbled sounds all over this keep me in a funky alien sort of vibe.

Vst hoarder! Killer sound design and motion.

Sound design here is mad! Is it the synplant making those squishy sounding lead stabs?

Great arrangement. This remember me a bit of Nubreed. Nice work! smile

Nice and weird atmosphere! I like when the beat kicks into gear! Also weren't you planning to make shorter tracks this year...? big_smile

Yup, it can generate some really out-of-this world vibes.

I wasnt expecting Nubreed, but I'll take it! thanks smile

I was feeling it with the bass pulse but when the hat came in my head just hit full nod.  Love how the beat changes up too.  The bass and percs are such a good groove.  Those faded leads give me War of the Worlds vibes.  Big alien ships honing in on peoples yikes  Night driving would be better with this playing heart

so i listened in my phones while making coffee this morning, before reading the description.
it really sounds incredible and got me moving.
but it also made me feel a bit uneasy, a little bit of that tight stomach feeling.
so yeah, your title and description totally made sense when i read them after listening.

i'm sorry you experienced that iniquity at 24.  heart

had to go back and listen again. your panning and low end work are really inspiring. such a treat in headphones.
cheers, As_Yoesual!

the URL to the sheet has an epic tag close fail moment, but that sure is a lot of them

Well that was a trip. Got me moving. I like it!

I also have decided to start using Synplant 2 on, so far counting this week, a couple of submissions this year. Agreed that the experience can feel unwieldy / doesn't lend an easy "in". You did a great job with this track! Excited to hear more in general & if you further incorporate SP2 into your rotation of VSTs.

great sound design and the low end is particularly snazzy, very groovy

I def. want to try and use synplant more often, I def. want to feel accustomed to it, it has such a unique and odd flavor of sounds. *hugs*

Thanks jwh! I had that same tight stomach feeling when I published week3, because I hope you --at the very least-- somewhat like it. hehe.
*hugs*
