It's a curse and a blessing altogether!
Nothing amazing actually: the same loop over and over again, a new instrument every 4 bars, tempo slowed down almost to oblivion and a lot of reverb, and voilà.
Next week will be the mark of the second half of the year and I'll get a bit more time, we'll see if it translates into better quality of sound. : )

Neat track. The slowing down really adds a tone of vibe to the piece. And the sporadic arpeggiating hits are cool! The sudden silence at 2:25 feels, well, sudden. And I don't like that the sound comes back after that. To me it feels the sound should just have held on, rather than letting go. But other than that, this is cool!

Makes sense, you definitely want to set yourself up for a good start on this week's tune. And I'm sure you'll make it make sense within the context of your whole opus. But on its own like that, it stood out to me. Hence me mention it like that.

Mix has been done in Audacity it's not the smoothest but at least you can listen to everything in one go.
I've skipped the last outro to have a sense of conclusion to the mix, although I'll surely continue the series next week.

Lack of time and doing WB in this manner is also the reason this year has been the most prolific in 20 years (the Dirtywave M8 is also to blame, it's formidable).

The slowdown is such a simple concept, but the result is all the more stronger for it. Love it when new sounds start to appear in the gaps. Super cool stuff mate!

Very cool little bit of new Boards of Canada thing here but absolutely its own character and I am kinda in love. Especially when things go deep and low. Also I think the drop to silence and then the brief "echo" of the melody fading in for just a moment is a brilliant ending here - if it had continued longer it might have made that silence seem more out of place, but as it is you've got this fantastic gesture that essentially punctuates the "first" ending dropping to silence... an echo to hold our hand for a moment on parting. Brilliant.

(Also cuz my brain is in reference mode there's some great nods to M83 here as well and there's a band you can point to for using silence like this okay I am done wall of texting you)

Didn't know about M83, went listening to Outro and now I see what you mean about them using silence.
Sometimes, the things that aren't there scream louder that things that are.
I love it when a sound that was just there is ringing in my head, I might abuse it in my tracks.
(Also makes for great transitions when you're lazy, bringing a sense of suspense, well a classic drop technique.)

The track's outro does feel a bit "forced" as I needed to kickstart next week's track, but glad you liked it!

There's also a looming doom when the lowest sound comes around the middle.
(Psst, I'll let you in a secret, it's actually the clarinet improv making a return from WB#1 and WB#23 but pitched way way down.)

The ending in pingpong mode was really cool. If I had an extra 30 minutes I’d be messing around with the time signatures of the arps throughout, mostly cutting a few into 7/8 or something. The space is nice. By the end it had me convinced, but there was a realization partway through that no extra layers were going to come in. So I instead shifted this to be a nice little ambient minimalism.

Hey, thanks for that! I'll up my arp game anyway (Daft Punk's Voyager's arp in the second half of the track is living in my head rent free).
Sound design is actually really limited due to the time constraint, trying to fill bass/mid/high with different sounds and filtering them, and also using the M8 LFO's here and there on the internal synths to give a bit of movement, nothing more.

The ending is a quicker version of the track's last part, reversed, and for the looping part it is retriggered over and over with volume going down.
(For the record, while making the track, it track actually slowed down a looooot more, up to 1 BPM, but I didn't want to bore anyone with a 6-minutes long track 😅).
As as you know, it's made with the M8 and you can resample to bounce tracks into one, but I rarely do it mostly because of the time constraint, so it is usually only 8 tracks at most (and here it's only 7, as one track is reserved for tempo automation).

All in all, it goes something like this:
- last week's arp (wavsynth triangle) + chords (hypersynth)
- slowing down with TPO + REP commands
- bass (wavsynth triangle)
- high string (piano sample through OSC play mode)
- mid string (wavsynth wt-osc liquid shape with LFO on MULT and WARP to give it texture)
- arp (FM synth with a+b+c+d algo, giving 4 different notes to play with, with ARP command) + bass (colleague's daughter's clarinet improv sample, pitched very low)
- silence
- resampled last part, reversed then looped.
