Just Go Away

By zpeisman on January 28, 2024 11:55 pm

This week I decided I'd bring in the good old roland d-110 for some 1988 drum flavour.

It quickly turned into an opportunity to practice the guitar a little. I guess it helps to record something rather than just play out in the air, so maybe I'll do some more of it during the year and it'll turn out constructive.

Maybe try to get some less fingernail harmonics in the mix next time too (obnoxious amounts of delay isn't going anywere).

drums: roland d-110
bass: matrixbrute
guitar: godin session -> moog mf drive -> barber small fry -> ehx deluxe memory boy -> vox amp
"piano": minifreak

Fun and catchy tune, guitar sounds great. I like it when you can hear the fingers touching the strings and fingerboard.

Yo, hello Matrixbrute! This track definitely has a 1980s flavor, you could even add the lyrics to it... I hear the "...just go away" in the chorus, not sure who/what's going away. "Hot Topic, just go away" is the first thing that came to mind, but nobody wants that I'm pretty sure

I’m not sure who/what’s going away either, but the main riff really started out as a scrambled chorus idea in my head where that was the only string of actual words! smile

That's cool it can be like a fill-in-the-blanks thing for the listeners!

great guitar playing, loved it at 1:22 when you had the backing chords

wow, loved those drums, i'll have to get some d-110 samples for my octatrack.

i like the guitar tone, and how perfectly it sits within the overall space, beautiful song structure too smile

You are amazing on guitar, it's glorious.

Thank you, makes me glad to hear!

@orangedrink, I was surprised how useful those drums were, I only decided to use them sort of as a why-not thing since I didn't have much else to choose from and thought it might be fun (and it was). Let me know if you'd take them in a single wavefile and I could record them for you.
