Blind Control

By zpeisman on January 23, 2022 11:10 pm

This week I decided early that I wanted to do some sort of hardware synth jam.

My initial thought was to record something straight off the mixer, but after several attempts to record something with always some mistake happening, I ended up recording just the main body (drums, bass, sequencer line) in one mono take, then overdub leads (and noise/snare roll) afterwards. This allowed me to add some reverb and eq tweaks ITB too, which didn't hurt.

The Dirtywave M8 Tracker was used as a MIDI sequencer and sync source for the main body, while the other parts were played by hand.

Drums: MFB 522 -> mixer (eq) -> Universal Audio 710 (overdrive) -> Moog MF-101 -> Malekko Scrutator -> mixer
Bass: Vermona Mono Lancet -> mixer (overdrive) -> Marantz PMD 221 cassette echo
Sequencer line: DSI Mono Evolver Keyboard -> mixer (eq) -> PMD 221
First lead: Korg MS-20 mini -> Moog Minifooger MF Chorus - > mixer (eq) -> PMD 221
Filtered noise (alongside snare roll): Vermona Mono Lancet -> mixer -> PMD 221
Second lead: DSI Mopho Keyboard -> mixer -> PMD 221
Third lead: Arturia Minibrute 2 -> mixer (eq) -> PMD 221
Portamento lead: Korg MS-20 mini -> Moog Minifooger MF Chorus - > mixer (eq) -> PMD 221

Beautiful track, could hear Martin or Dave singing on this for sure.

This is a Devo track that was never released and you found it from cave in your backyard. you have to confess now. Also, this rocks.

Absolutely love your music, this is unbelievably good. Also love the idea of an all-hardware synths controlled by M8, will have to find a less-crazy work week than the next few are going to be, but absolutely will be copying a page out of your book.

Wow this sounds amazing! And yes, absolutely could fit in black celebration big_smile

Very cool! Great jam, love all the parts and sounds, minimal but full arrangement.

Awesome man, this sounds great.  The lead line that comes in after 1:30 is sweet.

Really cool- has a great vibe all the way thru

The 3rd lead is magical!

I like it, it's very solid

Nice melody! Very fun chill lil tune

I sense some Kraftwerk vibes from this smile nice work! Need to get my synths set up too...
