a lot of the basses are simple waveforms with lots going on in the modulation section. Amplitude, pitch, and filter sections will typically all have multiple lfos with different settings creating interesting interference patterns with some degree of randomness. Then I'll render some long notes out, chop up the sample, and mine the slices for interesting bit of squelch. These get sequenced, layered with sub bass, and generally fucked with using fx commands :]

I do a lot of processing w instrument fx and macro automation, too

renoise definitely has its learning curve, but once you wrap your brain around it, it's so fast and efficient and capable... and fun!
