Introitus

I’m back! After I made virtually no music in 2025, and after not having used the Exquis controller I got for Christmas 2024 all year, I managed to hype myself up in the last days of the year. The Exquis turns out to really be an Intuitive Instrument, I participated in a jam session with it with almost no practice and managed to play very well on it right away! I’m quite happy about that and excited to see what I’ll be doing with it this year.

This week’s song came together quite spontaneously after I was still unsure about the direction for a few days. I’m especially happy about constructive criticism regarding mixing and mastering: I still feel I haven’t got a good feeling about what to pay attention to, or what can be done, even after listening to the song a few times on different sound systems.

I see we both chose to start moody. Nice! I've especially enjoyed the whispers in the beginning, combined with the Terminator-like synth bass.

well done, first time hearing about the exquis (I promised myself no new gear in 2026, very tempting)

Oh man, starting ‘26 strong!

Love the pulse and build on this. Starting whispers were great, and then when the beat kicked in at 1:20 or so? Awesome. Looking forward to more this year!

Oh man, that opening filter sweep sets such a good mood... does such a great job of raising the anticipation level... this feels like a perfect live set track one.  Mix wise, I think I would processed the vocals more heavily for a track like this to really lean into that mysterious dark vibe... so like maybe pushing it back farther on the sound stage (more reverb, lower volume) and then some like granular effects, or like parallel processed to a flanger with some LFOs on maybe rate or depth to give it movement... would probably make it sound ghostly and synthetic... or maybe totally the other way pulling vocals more forward... there is a really neat trick where (if recorded in stereo) you can split the left and right channels, phase invert them, and then hard pan them to the opposite side (basically turning the stereo field upside down an backwards) which (sometimes) makes the sound feel like it's coming from inside your head... super unsettling... but with some chorus to widen the vocals and to add some artifacts, I think it would fit the "open your mind" of it all.  Some well placed gated ping pong delay would probably suit it as well.

I love the arps though and that bass loop does a great job of grounding the track and giving a solid through line.  Nice work.

sweet sweet arps! What a jam, I need to check out this midi controller, I'm a sucker for midi controllers.

Bad ace buildup/intro!  The multiple pulsing basses are so addictive.  An intense mood created with the synths and your vocals.  Feeling some 90s industrial vibes in this.  The controller looks really cool and fun to play on. Well done!

Very cool!
Welcome back to making music. I hope this will be your most prolific year, yet!

I like the dark, moody vibe of this song, and the lyrics fit it perfectly. They remind me of an old Slipknot song, can't remember which one... But it's cool! And your lower vocals remind me a bit of NIN.

Nice!

Well done. Another earworm. Open the gate. Mixwise can’t say anything to improve. Your beautiful vocals come thru just about right.
