Aspartame

By Xjs on January 25, 2026 11:40 pm

An upbeat piece in C Major this week, as I was apparently thinking a lot about sugar and candy. I came up with the whimsical lyrics in a few minutes after playing an VNV Nation-like arpeggio, and it basically wrote itself from there. That left me lots of time to listen and re-listen and even out the balance of the mix. Still feel I have no idea what I'm doing but I feel it does sound a lot more balanced than some of my other tracks. Feel free to lend me some insight into what I could have improved, especially with regards to mixing & mastering.

Came back, because I really liked the first track that I was presented with (by the algorithm or whatever). I like it, its main line stays in my western brain, but bc. you asked for some critical assessment w.r.t. your mix: please consider placing your vocals more prominently. It seems you’ve got a characteristic voice, with all the vulnerability going along with it. The piece could be much more memorable if you dare.

Yeah, the choice of fx is fun on the vocals, but it really feels disconnected from the rest of the track that is way more dry.

Interesting track anyways!

SO SWEET, but there is nothing like the real thing... Sugar!

I'd call this sugary sweet, but that is specifically not what it is.
So I'll call it cheesy.

I like this a lot - agreed, it’s different that your other tracks. Agreed with funk17, I’d love to hear your vocals a bit more prominently in this track - there’s an honesty to them that I’d like to hear more clearly.
