Dead End

Ok so... Maybe wanting to learn Ableton Live more, play guitar and sing in the same week was a bit of a tall order o_O
Not entirely happy with this, but at least I finished it... not even sure what kind of genre it's supposed to be

I cheated a bit with melodyne, but I couldn't salvage the performance ;P

A lot of things could use some improvement, but that's what I could manage in a week!

Melodyne's no more cheating than a midi roll, or nail-gun... like it's a tool, the only question is does it help you make the thing you wanted make?

I really love the processing on the guitars in this track, definitely delivers on the promised vibes.  Oh, and the tone on that synth voice that comes in at ~3:15... very darkwave... ♡ ~('▽^人)

Fuck yes. And congratulations. This is an epic week's worth of work. The vibe is there, the lyrics, the stalking bass and big synths and industrial percussion are all right on point, its awesome.

As someone who also chased the guitar lyrics vocals synths everything in a week madness last WB I know what a challenge that is and you should be really proud. Keep chasing that monster! (Also take a few breaks along the way lol)

And Melodyne isnt cheating its industry standard and well suited - demanded - of this genre in particular. And if you listen to the "legendary" vocalists of music you will hear them all fantastically out of tune and pitchy. Think David Bowie on Life on Mars and Blackstar. So much of that performance is the character and the words - and very little about being pitch perfect.

(I sure as hell am not!)

This was awesome! Very excited to listen to your journey down this rabbit hole smile

Amazing work! For the amount of things relatively new for you in a week that's more than impressive.

I want more songs in that style big_smile

Yeah a good garage rock track! I was not expecting that when clicking the track but this is cool. More guitars!

Congrats on the track, and extra kudos for recording vocals. That sounds super impossing in my book.

I could feel some NiN / Reznor vibes here. Cool delivery, also

Congrats on the whole process, I love the atmosphere. It sounds great too!

Love how complete this is. Great job.

"I thought I heard you knocking faintly as the distance grows"  heart

J'adore!

I seriously dig the vibe you have going here. Love the guitar and mix, great delivery and lyrics. Fantastic effort for one week - not sure what genre you have going either, but I’d listen to an album of it for sure. More please!

I really loved this song!

Very cool. Very different from the stuff I know you for.

Man, I have a similar comment than I did for last week's tune: your vocal delivery still reminds me of David Bowie! Hahahaha... The vocal melodies play a really fun counterpoint to the other voices here. Dreamy and ethereal, but also somehow heavy. Super cool combo!

Well I mean, I guess it helped a bit haha, still I need to practice more... but yeah I am using it from now on XD used it on this week's track too.

The synth at the end is Fors Chiral

Thanks for listening :3

Hey thank you so much! Yeah re: melodyne I'll take all the help I can get haha but the point of doing this is to try to improve with the singing, too... I try to not over apply the effect and to keep some of the "natural" aspect of the performance (if you want to call it that lol) so it keeps the character, I just wish my notes were a bit steadier hehe

I made a rushed one this week in the same style.

Thanks for tuning in! I'm learning hehe, I made a new song this week in the same style, should you be interested

haha yeah THE GUITAR HURTS MY FINGERS lol chu habitué à la guitare classique moi! J'ai layered un peu plus de guit sur la track cette semaine, et complètement rip off un riff hyper obscur que je crois que personne va reconnaître hehe

Thanks a lot! Maybe one day I will re-record those properly, for now I just keep iterating for weeklybeats

The lyrics are directly linked to stuff I am going through at the moment... the knocking is more of a wishful thinking at this point =/

Hey merci!

Thanks a lot! I'm really happy you like it! I made another this week, a bit shorter and more rushed, but maybe you'll like it too

Yo, I'll take the compliment haha it's a good vocalist to be refered to for sure ^^ I felt sometimes the guitar was a bit too busy and kinda distracted away from the lyrics, but it seems you enjoyed the interaction :3

It's been cool seeing what you're exploring smile I'd be a little sad if we all were locked to LSDJ and LGPT forever.

I took a page from your book in week 5. Guitar, vocals, and ableton tongue

oof such a killer intro with those opening chords. Love how those dark synths sound with your vocals and the guitar. \m/
