O Olho

Still working on the short film I talked about last week. This week, I've got the first sketch for the final scene. I want to convey a sense of tension and desire, for when the couple finally comes together. It's a very graphic scene where both characters start kissing each other and there's a third character involved that makes the whole situation weird.

The movie will be out in November and I will share a link then!

Cover is a still from a scene in the movie by Joaquim Pavão (director/DOP)

Damn, what kinda film is this gonna be!? From what you've been posting, it sounds like an A24 film or something similar. I always admire their musical scores and how much more intense it makes the movie. I get a similar feeling from this. Really cool sound design work. Curious what sort of Ableton FX you're using. Love the space at 3:30. You've utilized dissonance really well in this track. Psyched to check out the film when it's out!!

wow I want to see this film when it's done. This score is insane. So many awesome layers, rhythms and sounds, packed with tension. Killer!

Caraca, rapaz, que fantástico!!!
Like the others said, great job building up the tense vibe. It comes through super well!
Also, congrats on landing the short film!!! I'm excited to see it with your multiple contributions to its score!!!

Weird how?
Also, that bass does crazy stuff and I'd love to hear so much more of it. Feels like it has much untapped potential.

Hey! Thanks for the compliment! A24's films have a very characteristic soundtrack to them. I like how they're not affraid of trying things out and have lots of freedom to do so.
The idea in this short I'm working on is similar. I've been working with the director for a long time so we trust eachother to go after a few wild ideas and give things a try. Sometimes we get surprised by interesting results.

As for FX's I have an ableton template I've created to perform live, mapped to a midi fighter twister and it essentialy is a mix of stock delay, reverb, some modulation (flanger/phaser) and several loopers and granulators that I use to grab little snippets of the songs to mix in. Sometimes I run the loopers unquantized to the song's tempo and that's where I find lots of interesting grooves and dissonances. Great thing about Ableton's looper is that you get to keep an audio file of the loop you just created!

Thank you! I'll share when it's released (should be mid-November).

Obrigado amigo! This version of the song was all m8. I've since imported it to the DAW and been finessing it. Hopefully soon I'll have the full soundtrack finished and can probably upload the new version here!

Well, I guess it's a matter of prespective, but the way the whole thing goes down, it's definitely odd! Don't want to give much away but the couple is having a moment whilst the third character is unconfortably close to them and has a creepy vibe.
As for that bass line, it has a few rough edges that I took care of in the meantime... maybe wasting that untapped potential. sad

I don't feel like it's a competition, but thanks for the support!
For these WB, I like to try things out without much of a plan and share the experience with everyone here! Some are good, some are not so good, but there sure is a lot of talent around these parts!

Right, yeah I didn't mean it as a competition but as far as my personal tastes go I thought of it that way
