Litmus

By Wisefire on January 7, 2024 11:08 pm

I wasn't going to participate, as i have an album to make with some of the highlights of previous years.

Buuuut.... on the other hand, i have an amazing collection of synths that have just been gathering dust, and i would really make use of 'em.

So my challenge for this year is to incorporate some of the hardware back into my music making.

This week it's a simple test of my setup, a litmus test or an.. ACID test if you will (waka-waka).

.. which failed to work (sad trumpet). in the end I had to record through a cheap Behringer audio interface, and I forgot to record in stereo. All part of the process in the end. It's a sign that I am quite rusty when it comes to hardware.

So a bit of acid it is, a tr-8, tb-3 and a td-3-mo (which is getting it's midi from the tb-3)

And lastly, i'd like to welcome all the familiar users, and especially all the new users! May your own challenge fare thee well!

Lovely Acid!

Thnx! never a bad day for some 303 (clones)

fun roland jam for sure!  hope you're having a good 2024 so far and it keeps maintaining its goodness

Fun stuff! Gotta love that 303 resonance screech. Makes me wanna run my td3/tr8 setup again smile

i hear a screaming acid bass, i like

@bryface i think 2024 is gonna be year of positive vibes, for sure!

@doomscrolling you should! knob twiddling is fun!

@Apticx thnx! distortion/overdrive is like magic!

Seconding the great acid comment!

Love this stuff man! Also the unexpected change in volume around 2min just for the hell of it... thats what makes stuff stand out
I think Lord Aphex would be proud.

i can listen to acid lines all day. i kept being like, i should move one, then i was like, oh maybe just a bit more. definitely got me moving in my chair.

are you running a 303 hardware box of some sort. I would love to get into that world but it's a little intimidating and can be pricey. would love any advice if you have thoughts.

@N_ronvaldez much appreciated, expect more acid in the phuture!

@NeonRebar It's an honour to be compared to AFX, i'm not worthy wink

@nedsferatu yeah i'm running a roland aira tb-3 (which can be had for about 150 euro second hand) and a td-3-mo (which can be had for less than 200 euro second hand, but the non -mo version can be found for less than 90 euro) you don't need to break the bank for some nice tb-303 sounds, i absolutely love my tb-3, as it has so much more inside than you'd realize looking at the surface. there is this whole midi implementation part, where you can sound design incredible sounds, that are way beyond what a tb-303 can do.

YOOOOOOOOOOO! I totally didn't realize you were doing WB this year.  I mean, you probs mentioned it!  Banging acid jam here. "Simple test of my setup".... hehehe... Banging!  I like how it get layed in the middle for a bit, then you just bring it home.  Live take?  ( Might have to brush off the MC202 and see if it still works for one of the weeks ;-) )  Also... those f'ing Behringer interfaces that always default to mono every time you plug them into a new USB port...whhhyyy?!  ANyhoo - great to see ya here.

Thanks this is really helpful! those are some good suggestions. I have been vaguely aware of options but i think i'll get more serious about figuring out exactly what i want. nothing sounds better on a club sound system than a 303, it is known.
