Countach

By waziam on May 24, 2026 6:05 pm

Went for a something that wouldn't feel out of place in Outrun or Ridge Racer. Landed a little different, but I think it still puts you in the seat of a Lambo.

Ever since I played Test Drive on my Amiga I always wanted a Countach, this may be the closest I get.

Not 100% on my levels here, but will do for now on WB smile

Fantastic choice of sounds! From the polysynth chords to slap bass and the percussion sound. It's a vibe for sure!
Also good job on the B-section, it really brings a ton of groove and variation but sounds totally coherent with the rest. For the key solo around the 3min mark, perhaps a keys patch that's a little more glassy or transient heavy, a little more high-mids focussed would make the section sound slightly less subdued. Those kinds of things kinda iron themselves out relistening a couple days/weeks later, but this is weeklybeats, so you gotta push the first draft. But overall, this is incredible work for a 1-week-track!

Amazing jam. You sucked me in with the drum kit. The transitions are well executed and keep this thing interesting all the way through. I agree with Leo on the sound selection. This would level up quickly with some engineering/mixdown attention and maybe tightening that lead starting at 1:32.

Outrun, Ridgeracer, Test Drive! heart

I think the mix feels a bit uneven, yes. A bit bass/ low mids heavy. And the break down into the solo around the 2min mark feels like it's losing momentum. Which is not what you want in a racing game. It's easily remedied by adding a soft arpeggio underneath it, or whatever. You definitely can and should ramp down the sound intensity from time to time. As long as it keeps propelling the track forward. Anyway, that's just how I think about it. Lovely stuff nonetheless!

Thanks so much, thats lovely feedback. The B-section didn't come off smothly at all initially, but after some tweaking finally got it to land, so it's great to hear you say that. I think you're right about about the key solo, that was a patch on the AN1X which being a late 90s machine in general sounds like a playstation soundtrack and totally fits the mood. But I think in the mix i killed what makes the patch good, will be a good one to revisit in the future.

Thanks a heap, late night last minute mixdowns probably aren't doing any favours. Always love hearing from yourself heart

I was hearing similar things in there, will see how i go in the future. Love the input

What a fun track and who doesn’t want a countach.  So many little changes and sprinkling in new elements, the track is over 5 minutes but stays fresh.

Test Drive was one of my first racing games. Nice relaxing track, although nowadays I associate a Countach more with synthwave driving. Your track is more like having the Countach parked and enjoying the beach.

Thanks so much for listening, I love when people put in the time to apreciate the detail.

Yeah I think you're right about the vibe there, my fantasy is more about having a Countach than driving it.

Love this track! I thought the switch up at 2min worked great. I'd echo Jason's comment, lots of interesting things going on the whole way through

Incredible groova man, damn I like this a lot!! Such a mood, keep it up!! heart
