SHAME i used a late link to work past the deadline... sad
(first time this year)

it's too late in the year to keep pulling start-on-sunday jams...

First an M8 chord + bass loop sent out through the Analog Heat for some "Enhancement" and envelope-following filter action, recorded into my Zoom H5.  Did some live manipulation, both on the Heat filter knob, and the M8 touchscreen.  Then sampled back into the M8 to continue the track  (am i missing it, or is there not a way to record without monitoring, to sample an FX loop directly?)

So it's all M8 synths, plus one Heated resampled track.

This was an idea from September last year.  I was playing Mother 3 at the time, and that sparked me toward some goofy meter (17).  Made a goofy chord progression to go with it, and a haunting lead wail.  (especially liked how it sounds totally broken when repeated straight on top of the differing chords)

It took a while today to pick back up some momentum on it, which is why I overran the deadline today.

The hardest part was the middle section.  The lead echoes the chromatic-moving top voice of the main chords, but at a faster pace, and repeated in a descending sequence.  I knew the texture I wanted (minimal the first repeat, which segues into the second repeat an octave lower, with a dense 3-voice arpeggiated harmony plus bass, plus a lead solo on top).

It took forever to figure out how to harmonize it.  Forced myself to work out some goofy chromatic action, because I really wanted to keep the original near-perfect-sequence melody.  But I like how it turned out, and really like some of the  phrases of the solo.  It reminds me of Undertale (more RPG inspiration, i guess).

Overall structure reminds me of week 5 "peroxide" too.

Those are some serious leads, definitely fit for a game of some nature.

i love these straight-to-tha-face distorted beats, and that fuzzy bass altogether just keeps me leaning into it, too good!

› and holy shit

sick, aggressive playful and whimsical, I dig it.

excellent wide-ranging sound design. reminded me of Tipper, Resonant Language etc.

Love that starting loop, great use of the Heat (what a beautiful machine). Beautifully crunchy and atmospheric the whole way through.
